Peggy Gou is the new queen of the charts and electronic music who conquered with the song (It Goes Like) Nanana, her performance at Coachella is confirmation of this. Her first album "I Hear You" released on June 7th, with a mix of pop and Nineties sound with an exceptional feat with Lenny Kravitz. &nbsp;

In March 2024, UNESCO declared Berlin techno an intangible heritage of humanity, including not only the music but also the clubs, raves, festivals and all the places, and non-places, that built the counter-culture , and they continue to do so. Techno and its nuances are one of the fastest growing musical genres in terms of listening, production and turnover. Since the 1970s, Berlin has seen the biggest artists record at least one album there, <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/music/should-you-see-this-new-documentary-devoted-to-david-bowie" target="_blank" rel="noopener">David Bowie</a> himself had &ldquo;not the slightest doubt about the future direction of music, which as far as I'm concerned is in Germany&rdquo;.
Renamed the cradle of the electronic avant-garde, Berlin is still the resident city of many artists, mostly djs. Among these, one of the most popular is Peggy Gou . From Seoul , she is the youngest Korean female artist to have played Berlin's top clubs such as Berghain. 2023 was her golden year, with two songs that topped all the world charts, the first <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnBdf559ofQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&ldquo;(It Goes Like) Nanana&rdquo;</a> - inspired by ATB's 1998 song &ldquo;9PM (Till I Come)&rdquo; - is a hit with a melodic refrain, a light-hearted answer to all questions and a motto to live life in a slightly lighter world, which also earned her a BBC radio Award for Best Dance Track.
The second is the feat with Lenny Kravitz in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t-CfqToO7o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&ldquo;I Believe in Love Again&rdquo;</a> , both singles from her album, out on June 7th &nbsp; via XL Recordings, &ldquo;I Hear You&rdquo; . Even though everyone knows her as a DJ, &nbsp; few know that she also has a degree in Fashion Design, that her first fashion brand was supported by <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/hommes/book-virgil-abloh-louis-vuitton-creative-director-price" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Virgil Abloh</a>. This summer she will be in Italy with several dates including June 21st in Camaiore at La Prima Estate and August 14th in Puglia, Salento, at the Panorama Festival.

L'Officiel: &nbsp; How did you approach the world of music? Peggy Gou: As a child I played with an audio book &ldquo;King Zing's Gong Song&rdquo; linked to the world of sounds, then at eight I started playing the piano, approaching classical music, and then arriving at electronic music at sixteen.
LO: Has your cultural background influenced you? PG: I draw inspiration from Korean culture, but I think music is just music. There is a Korean K-pop artist that I have been listening to since I was a child Uhm Jung-hwa, who I am now lucky enough to also be friends with.
LO: What value does being a DJ have for you today? PG: When it comes to my work, I don't consider myself just a DJ. I feel much more than that. For me the DJ is someone who teaches people the value of music and educates them, it is someone who transmits a beautiful memory and is somehow responsible for it. &nbsp;
LO: You have been defined as the most relevant woman in your industry. What effect does it have on you? PG: It's the kind of compliment that makes you want to do better. I think I've earned it, I work very hard and the more I grow, the more I feel the responsibility to be a good example and to convey a positive message. &nbsp;
LO: Let's get to the album coming out in June, what can you reveal to us? PG: I can't go into too much detail but for me it represents a big step forward in my career. I really worked on it a lot, I was influenced by 90s music and the style of those years. I'm a little nervous and excited at the same time: what can I say? I'll have to let people hear it and let them judge. It's a bit like giving birth to a baby. &nbsp;

LO: Were there moments when you felt under pressure during the making of the album? PG: Yes but pressure is never a bad thing for me. Sometimes I create it myself to push myself and because I know I can do more. I already know that once the album comes out I will think &ldquo;I could have done it better&rdquo;. With &ldquo;(It Goes Like) Nanana&rdquo;, the single my debut, the audience literally went crazy and I didn't expect it; sometimes I said to myself &ldquo;now you'll always have to make songs like this&rdquo; but in reality the album doesn't just contain announced hits, it also shows the public my tastes and the genres I love. &nbsp;
LO: When did you realize that &ldquo;(It Goes Like) Nanana&rdquo; would be a worldwide hit? PG: It was at the top of many Spotify charts, including the Italian one where mine was the only foreign song in the top ten. It meant a lot to me. The Italian public appreciates me and supports my music from the beginning, transmitting positive energy to me. &nbsp;
LO: What musical direction are you going in? PG: I listen to a bit of everything and select the sounds I like, until it becomes my own thing without labeling it in a specific genre. I remember when I first started DJing I told myself I would become a house DJ but most of the DJs I love don't just play that genre. The songs on the album follow my style, they could be called pop, but it's my pop.

LO: Like the single &ldquo;I Believe in Love Again&rdquo; with Lenny Kravitz, what was it like working with him? PG: When I first met Lenny I was very nervous. We recorded in his studio in the Bahamas and his studio in Paris, which was truly amazing. Lenny is a perfectionist, just like me: he knows exactly what he wants. There were compromises but in the end we were both satisfied. &nbsp;
LO: Bahamas, Paris, London, Berlin&hellip; you travel a lot for work, is there a place that particularly impressed you? PG: I love Italy, especially in the summer just to be able to eat. It's a place where people share passion and crazy love, as a musician when I play I feel a very strong energy. Who knows, maybe in a past life I was Italian. &nbsp;
LO: You know that among the younger ones the nickname of Aunt Peggy goes around, the cool and slightly crazy aunt that everyone is waiting for for the holidays... PG: That's super cute. When Italians love you they love you, on the other hand when they hate you they hate you. &nbsp;

LO: What relationship do you have with fashion? PG: I love fashion and one of the brands that I consider most interesting at the moment is Bottega Veneta, Matthieu Blazy is doing a really great job.
LO: You also have your own clothing brand, which also had Virgil Abloh among its first supporters&hellip; PG: Yes, Virgil recommended me to the company he was working with, he went to them and said, &ldquo;You need to work with her,&rdquo; and that's one of the reasons I did. To date, however, my focus is music, even if my love for fashion is always here. On the side I make my own merch &ldquo;Peggy goods&rdquo; which is a way to stay connected to my fans. &nbsp;
LO: A wish for the future? PG: I have so many things I want to do, but those are the ones I don't like to talk about. In Korea we always say that the human mind changes its mind 12 times a day, which means you might want something today, but not want it tomorrow.
LO: Is there anything besides music that makes a difference in your life? PG: The simple things. Sleeping in my bed, good food and going to the gym are perhaps obvious things, but not for me who travels a lot and no matter how banal they make me happy. &nbsp;
