Ferragamo Celebrates Dance with New Exhibition at Teatro alla Scala in Milan
Starting from the connection with dance, Ferragamo is the official partner of the exhibition "The Hidden Gaze. The Dance Behind the Curtain" from 12 February to 14 September 2025 at the Museo Teatrale alla Scala in Milan.
The enchanted world of ballet is revealed in the exhibition “The Hidden Gaze. Dance Behind the Curtain”, at the Museo Teatrale alla Scala, from 12 February to 14 September 2025. A unique event, made possible thanks to the partnership with Ferragamo , which invites visitors to explore the hidden life of the Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company, through the extraordinary photographs of Gérard Uféras . An unmissable opportunity for lovers of dance, fashion and art, which celebrates the profound bond between ballet and Ferragamo .
Behind the scenes of dance: the exhibition at Teatro alla Scala
Far from the spotlight of the stage, the exhibition curated by Paola Calvetti and Livia Corbò reveals the secrets of preparing a ballet show. From the rehearsal room to the moment before the debut, “The Hidden Gaze. The Dance Behind the Curtain” recounts the most intimate details of the world of dance: silences full of emotion, glances of understanding between dancers and gestures that hide years of discipline and dedication. Thanks to the photographic talent of Gérard Uféras, each image becomes a visual storytelling capable of transporting the spectator to the heart of the Teatro alla Scala, a symbolic place of Italian culture and art.
Ferragamo and Ballet: A Long-Standing Bond
Ferragamo’s partnership with the world of dance dates back to the 1920s, when founder Salvatore Ferragamo began creating shoes for stars and artists such as Anna Pavlova, Alicia Markova, and Katherine Dunham . Over time, the maison has succeeded in combining style and ergonomics, creating shoes that have remained in the spotlight and are loved not only by dancers, but also by legendary actresses such as Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo , and Marilyn Monroe.
Among the most iconic creations, the ballerina designed for Audrey Hepburn in 1954 is a symbol of timeless elegance, combining practicality and refinement. Even today, Ferragamo renews this bond with dance, as demonstrated by the spring summer 2025 collection by Maximilian Davis , inspired by ballet, with soft lines and shades that recall the wings of the theater. Fashion and ballet therefore form an indissoluble bond for Ferragamo and even today ballerina shoes remain a best seller for the Florentine brand.
The Hidden Gaze: The Photographic Book
In parallel with the exhibition, the photographic book “Lo sguardo nascosto”, edited by Paola Calvetti, will be available in bookstores from 28 February 2025. 160 photographs enclosed in a volume that documents the daily life of the Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company, alternating black and white backstage images of rehearsals with color shots that portray the stage. Not just a collection of images, but a work that tells the story of dance as a human experience, made of sacrifice, passion and the search for perfection. A unique perspective of dance told with the shots of Gérard Uféras that reveal the most authentic side of ballet.
