2024 has seen a lot of highlights - from impressive advances in AI to global discussions on climate. Notably, two contrasting lifestyle trends are taking over the minds of Gen Z: Demure and Brat Summer. Although completely different, both emerged from the TikTok platform, redefining the concepts of fashion, care, and a little bit of necessary chaos.
The transitional season is a meaningful time, it seems like a rare opportunity of the year for people to slow down and discover the beauty of living modestly compared to enjoying freedom. The "demure" trend was born at the right time, as a gentle reminder for us to learn to respect the core values, which belong to nature and are most instinctive.
How did the "demure" beauty trend come about?
The "demure" trend originated from Lebron's TikTok videos, where she guides her followers through everyday tasks in a " very demure, very mindful " way.
In a world that often values noise and ostentation, "demure" is a breath of fresh air - encouraging people to step back, think about their behavior and maintain a neat image without "smudging". Jools Lebron shares that this is also the criteria for her dress and makeup when going to work:
“You see how I dress for work? Very casual, very light. I wear light makeup, I wear a wig, I braid my hair a little, I straighten it… You see how well-groomed I am? The way I show up for interviews is the way I show up for work. A lot of girls show up for interviews with their hair dyed red and blue like Marge Simpson* and show up for work looking like Patty and Selma*.”

Instead of trying to change yourself to become more attractive, the "demure" makeup style focuses on highlighting the beauty and feminine, elegant temperament from within. In contrast to Brat summer (a makeup style that uses neon green as the main color, stands out with flashy and bold makeup, suitable for girls who like to party), "demure" shows a dignified, elegant and unpretentious temperament.

Perfect foundation
The foundation of the “demure” makeup look is a flawless, natural base. This involves choosing a light foundation or tinted moisturizer that has enough coverage to even out your skin tone while still maintaining your natural texture. The goal is to create a smooth, radiant, naturally beautiful complexion. You can also use a soft bronzer to lightly contour your face, giving it more depth without losing its softness. Then, just add a touch of peach blush to complete the look!
Neutral eye colour
For eye makeup, autumn’s “demure” makeup looks lean toward neutral tones like taupe, taupe, and beige. The goal is to create subtlety rather than bold statements.
