Beauty editor Lilli Kelly: let's talk lips!
Winter weather in Ibiza is tough on lips and they need a lot of love to stay kissable. Lilli Kelly shows us how.
1. I love a lip scrub to rejuvenate dead skin. Dr Paw Paw’s Scrub & Nourish is one of my faves – a two-step product, it includes a nourishing balm as well as the scrub. All the ingredients are natural: the olive oil and aloe vera soothe and soften the lips, also keeping them conditioned and smelling divine, with a mango orange and coconut scent.
2. I adore to sleep with a lip mask on, as I wake up with the softest supple lips. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is a cult favourite as it gently removes dead skin cells on the surface and penetrates with vitamin C and antioxidants. This is also a great one for chapped lips, as it nourishes and regenerates overnight. Baby soft lips!
3. Taking care of your lips in the sun is super important as the skin on your lips is delicate so needs extra protection. SPF is an absolute must. Paula’s Choice Lipscreen SPF 50 is a rich velvety balm, that’s perfect for every skin type and shade, as it doesn’t leave that ghostly white cast we want to avoid with sunscreen. Filled with nourishing plant oils to soften while protecting, I love this one for its ability to sit beautifully under lipsticks without disturbance!
4. Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil may quite possibly be my desert island product! I’m all about easy, wearable products that look fabulous but are also nourishing when you're without makeup too. This is one of them. Containing essential oils, this boosts moisture, reduces appearance of lines and enhances volume. It does genuinely feel like a mini spa treatment on your lips every time you apply. The applicator is 24 carat gold plated, which feels super cooling and luxurious. Comes in six shades (my fave is Cameo) and a sheer version too. You’ll always see this product in my hand!
Now we’ve covered the health of your lips, the products for chapped, sun protection, cell renewal and rejuvenation. Now here’s my how-to and my pro tips on how to enhance your pout with your makeup.
Highlight and contour isn't just for your face, you can dramatically transform your lips with these super simple techniques.
- Using any powder highlight you already have at home (a powder highlight rather than cream or liquid will have more longevity throughout the day), apply a small amount to your cupids bow, this will instantly draw light to the area making your lips appear larger.
- Using your bronzer, apply some under your lower lip with a small eyeshadow brush. This will create a soft shadow, giving your lower lip a fuller appearance.
- You can totally transform your lips with your liner. Starting from the corners, you can slightly overlap with the liner to lift the edges of the mouth. Now for the cupids bow, you can stay true to your natural shape or create a new one, heart shaped or more angular - have fun with it! You can overlap the edge of your natural shape to create a fuller look. Pro tip: softly buff over your liner with a tiny eyeshadow brush making the edges more diffused and natural.
- Applying a touch of your fave gloss in the centre of the lip will create a pouty juicy look. Pro tip: using your concealer brush with just the tiniest amount concealer, go around the of lips to clean up your liner, making sure it's even on both sides and clean around the edges.
Lips are one of my favourite features and every kind of lip is so beautiful and also so fun to transform and play with using the power of make-up! I know you will love all these products as much as me. (I always feel better giving a little love to my lips. It's the little things!) Enjoy! Kisses, Lilli x
