Beauty in the fridge: why refrigerate skincare products?
Viral in social media, we consulted an expert to understand the boom in beauty products kept in the fridge
Beauty in the fridge? Yea! Mini fridges became a trend after viral videos on social media, where an extensive list of skincare products and accessories are replaced or selected for a refreshing routine. Even before this trend spread, some tricks with low temperatures were already used by celebrities, such as morning immersion in bowls of cold water, rollers, and spoons to deflate dark circles and compresses with cold tea bags. Thanks to the evolution of technology these procedures have become simpler and more practical.
But what are the benefits of this new behavior? Are they really necessary? We asked these and other essential questions for a dermatologist, Dr. Ana Luísa Nasser Erthal, to ensure a complete and risk-free personal care routine.
To cool or not to cool? That is the question!
Refrigerating cosmetics can be a good option to ensure a better texture, such as vitamin C and retinoic acid, for example. When some of these products are stored at low temperatures, the result is skin with more closed pores and better absorption of its assets.
The freshness when applying the products improves erythema and inflammation such as rosacea, acne and also after laser. Without any doubt or discussion, products handled or without preservatives in the formulation must be kept refrigerated.
Red alert
Checking product labels is essential, always with the aim of understanding refrigerator storage limitations. In addition, refrigerators for cosmetics must be between 10 and 15 degrees, a temperature considered suitable for cosmetics, thus ensuring that there is no separation of compounds such as oils. But watch out! Under no circumstances should makeups be kept at a low temperature.
Ordinary refrigerators cannot be used, as they are not completely sterile, unless a drawer or compartment is properly sanitized, there is no problem.
that extra treat
A refreshing massage to deflate specific areas always goes well, so storing Guachas and Rollers at low temperatures is an extra treat in a care routine. Soothing the skin, improving redness and inflammation, the feeling of well-being will be guaranteed.
Although it is not a rule to keep these accessories refrigerated, there is no contraindication, as long as you keep any of the guidelines already mentioned here.
