Crypto Island: Ibiza takes on the metaverse
As the blockchain-powered IbizaNXT event launches today, we look at how Ibiza has become a hub for the meteoric rise of Web3 and the NFT.
For three days from today, Ibiza will host Web3 experts and visionaries for the second IbizaNXT conference. Following on from a summer rich in content from the metaverse, the fair cements Ibiza’s growing reputation as a hub – alongside Miami, Lisbon and Los Angeles - for all things web3. IbizaNXT aims to bring together local representatives of industry and culture with international speakers and experts who will chair thought-provoking debates from the Web3 and blockchain world, with a specific focus on Defi, crypto, DAOs, crypto cities, NFTs, and the metaverse. Attendees will also enjoy a series of panel discussions, workshops, digital art exhibitions, and social gatherings.
Ibiza’s recent drive to become known as a ‘crypto island’ has been bolstered by campaigns from likes of entertainment outfit The Night League, who earlier this year partnered with the Party Degenerates collective to provide token holders with unprecedented access to the world’s top nightclubs, Ushuaïa Ibiza and Hï Ibiza. The Night league founder Yann Pissenem said that ‘moving into the NFT space feels like a natural progression for The Night League and our brands. Partnering with Party Degenerates is a great fit. Their concept, and ethos perfectly aligns with both Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza, and I’m really excited to see how this relationship develops.’
Back at IbizaNXT, the mood is optimistic, with Ibiza’s cultural heritage and development being placed firmly at the fore of proceedings. ‘Ever since the 60s, Ibiza has been a cultural mecca for those at the cutting edge,’ says a spokesperson for the event. ‘Forward-thinkers, radicals and change-makers have always flocked here, and right now, Web3 is at the forefront of tectonic transformations in the way we spend, the way we live and the way we think. So, what better place than Ibiza for Web3 experts and elite to spend a few days debating and dreaming up the future?’
