Every family has their Thanksgiving traditions, whether it's playing football in the yard or watching It's A Wonderful Life, but the most stylish TV fans know that one of the most exciting ways to spend the holiday is by rewatching every Gossip Girl Thanksgiving episode. Over six seasons, the hit TV series has become iconic for many things, including its ability to take family holiday drama to the next level—so much so that the 2021 reboot of the series received the same treatment with an extra drama-filled Thanksgiving episode. This year, for those looking to escape their own holiday chaos with a dose of Upper East Side scandalous, L'OFFICIEL has the ultimate guide to prepare you for each Gossip Girl Thanksgiving episode before your binge sesh.
Season 1, Episode 9: "Blair Waldorf Must Pie!"
In Season 1, Dan and Serena are in the early stages of their relationship. When he hears that Serena and her family will be spending Thanksgiving alone in their penthouse, he invites them to the Humphrey family dinner, not knowing that Dan's father Rufus and Serena's mother Lily were an item back in the day. Back in Manhattan, Blair is still spiraling after her night with Chuck and her father's absence on Thanksgiving finally pushes her to her breaking point.
Season 2, Episode 11: "The Magnificent Archibalds"
Thanksgiving Queen Blair is not happy about her mother's new boyfriend, Cyrus Rose. Meanwhile, Serena is dating Cyrus' son Aaron but isn't sure she's ready to fill him in on her past indiscretions. In Brooklyn, Jenny (who is considering emancipation) and Rufus aren't on good terms because of her skipping school to work on her fashion designs, quitting her internship, and hanging around with her new model friend Agnes. Dan, on the other hand, thought he was the next Bob Woodward and tried to get close to Chuck's dad Bart to write an exposé, but Chuck caught on to his scheme and threw him out. However, Chuck is also helping his friend Nate, who has been getting close to Vanessa, as he deals with the fall of his dad fleeing the country.
Season 3, Episode 11: "The Treasure of Serena Madre"
In perhaps the series' most dramatic Thanksgiving episode—everyone remembers the "Whatcha Say" dinner scene—all signs point to disaster as the gang gathers around the table. Dan's girlfriend has broken up with him because she believes he has feelings for Vanessa. Vanessa's estranged mother returns and has opinions on a lot of things that no one cares to hear. Lily has been lying to Rufus about traveling to see her mother all summer, which Cece (who has never liked Rufus) knows all too well. Jenny has no idea that it was Eric who orchestrated her public fall from grace at cotillion. And finally, there's certainly been a vibe with Nate and Serena, but she just started an affair with Nate's married cousin Tripp.
Season 4, Episode 10: "Gaslit"
This one's certainly a doozy, but hang in there. Leading up to Thanksgiving, Juliet is hellbent on taking down Serena. When her first plan doesn't work, she enlists Jenny and Vanessa in her schemes. After turning both Dan and Nate against her, Juliet also drugs Serena—and basically kidnaps her—and forges her withdrawal papers from Columbia, convincing Serena's family that she's reverted to her party-girl ways. Meanwhile, Blair and Chuck have broken up and Nate is still, four seasons later, trying to repair his parents' relationship.
Season 6, Episode 8: "It's Really Complicated"
It's true, fans were denied a Thanksgiving episode in Season 5, however, Gossip Girl's final season treated fans to a Thanksgiving we'll never forget.
Dan and Serena are back together. Serena is fresh from a breakup with a much older man whose daughter, Sage, is clearly gunning for Queen B status. Lily has reunited with Bart (who returned from the dead), much to the dismay of everyone, especially Chuck who has slowly been uncovering his father's list of crimes and misdeeds. Though, as he unravels Bart's web of lies, Chuck himself is unraveling, causing him to break up with Blair. Amidst all of the in-fighting, Dan has been writing an exposé about the entire group which could ostracize him from his closest friends and family.
Gossip Girl Reboot Season 1, Episode 7: "Once Upon a Time in the Upper West Side"
Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Gossip Girl reboot showed up for Thanksgiving and left no crumbs.
Ahead of this episode, Julien and Zoya have slowly been finding their footing as sisters, but that's complicated by the fact that Julien stills love Obie (Zoya's boyfriend and Julien's ex-boyfriend) and the pair's, unbeknownst to Zoya, recent hookup. Max is in an emotional funk following his dads' separation, and the affair with his teacher Rafa isn't helping. However, his budding relationship with Audrey and Aki seems to be. Audrey, exhausted from taking care of her mom, accidentally has accidentally outed Aki to his parents and his dad uses the information for social capital when defending his sketchy business practices. As the group gears up for Friendsgiving, clearly there's nothing that can go wrong.
