Why you absolutely must see the Anatomy of a Divorce series

As we know, in life as in a playlist, we can (more or less) quickly go from Let's get married to DIVORCE . By a narrative device that we will not reveal, a little crafty but quite clever , this mini-series plunges us into the heart of the divorce between Toby ( Jesse Eisenberg ) and Rachel ( Claire Danes ), its causes and consequences. The story remains as close as possible to Toby (for the reasons mentioned above….), his children and his friends, Seth ( Adam Brody , yes, yes, the one from Newport Beach …) and Libby ( Lizzy Caplan , particularly exceptional). If it does not reach the dramatic power of the recent Scenes from a Marriage , it must be admitted that it plays on another register, finding the New York grounds, where sentimental relations have passed to the sarcastic centrifuge, formerly surveyed by Woody Allen, to whom many winks are addressed (we can judge them indelicate or mischievous), and does not lack roughness - between small daily cruelties and ordinary pettiness, the characters do not lack realism , therefore defects. Nor, therefore, of qualities, as it is also a question here of friendly loyalty , captured with gentleness , but a gentleness that is never fooled by the challenges that time also imposes on the strongest friendships. The bittersweet tonality, in minor mode (in the musical sense), of this mini-series, delicately unfolding, its exceptionally accurate cast , its dry humor , its precise look at this strange transition experienced when the bar of forty years is crossed - with a backpack loaded with memories, regrets, existential questions , joys all the same, let's reassure the youngest   - make her deeply lovable.   Especially because it does not seek to be - sharp, acrid, it burns as much as it consoles.
