After close to eight years with Gucci, Alessandro Michele has stepped down from his role as Creative Director of the house. Since taking the job in 2015, the designer has managed to transform the look of the Gucci brand, with his vintage-inspired stylistic choices. As with the glamour that came from Gucci's past campaigns with Michele, the designer also led conversations surrounding inclusivity, placing a special focus on the topic of gender, sexual identity and race with his collections and campaigns. And due to his success and popularity with the younger generations of the fashion community, the designer managed to ring in billions of dollars for French luxury conglomerate Kering; a feat his successor will need to follow in the years to come.

During his tenure, the designer also fostered close relationships with friends and collaborators of the house, including Harry Styles, with whom he partnered on the Gucci HA HA HA Collection earlier this year, Lana Del Rey, Jared Leto, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Florence Welch, Billie Eilish, and more, after working together with them for his campaigns.

Earlier today, Michele took to Instagram to make his heartfelt goodbyes to the house. "There are times when paths part ways because of the different perspectives each one of us may have," the designer began. "Today an extraordinary journey ends for me, lasting more than twenty years, within a company to which I have tirelessly dedicated all my love and creative passion."

He continued: "During this long period, Gucci has been my home, my adopted family. To this extended family, to all the individuals, who have looked after and supported it, I send my most sincere thanks, my biggest and most heartfelt embrace. Together with them, I have wished, dreamed, imagined."

"Without them, none of what I have built would have been possible. To them goes my most sincerest wish: May you continue to cultivate your dreams, the subtle and intangible matter that makes life worth living. May you continue to nourish yourselves with poetic and inclusive imagery, remaining faithful to your values. May you always live by your passions, propelled by the wind of freedom."
