Chicca Senia announced as Barrow creative director
The designer and fashion influencer will head up the Italian streetwear label’s creative team
The Italian street wear label has announced Ibiza and Milan resident Chicca Senia as its new creative director. The brand ‘dedicated to digital natives’ has seen exponential growth since its inception in 2020 and will debut during February’s Milan Fashion Week with its Fall-Winter 23/24 collection.
Senia is no stranger to the fashion world, having previously worked in communications, and her profile has been elevated in recent years with several major brand associations. She also sits on the board of UNICEF Italia and is well connected in the music industry thanks to her links to Ibiza’s CircoLoco party.
‘My career is between music and fashion, and the fact that Barrow is streetwear, an evolving community, the materialization of a feelable, wearable, accessible cheerfulness, fits perfectly with the philosophy of my work in the entertainment industry.’ says Senia.
Barrow is known for its playful, irreverent collections that draw heavily on the worlds of art and street culture. Bright colours, experimental treatments and novelty graphics all play a starring role, and Senia has brought her fluid, feminine sense of style to the women’s and children’s lines.
‘The styling is very personal to me, with lots of oversized silhouettes tempered by heels and little socks. It’s got that very Barrow psychedelic DNA, but I’ve kept things quite clean and romantic. The colours are a little more faded and I’ve taken the brand’s iconic smiley logo and reworked it as a jewel on sweatshirt and as an oversized coin at the throat. It’s very cool.’
Next week’s presentation promises to be a highlight of MFW, to be followed by a star-studded event at the city’s iconic Arco della Pace, where Barrow and Senia will unveil a much-hyped partnership with Adidas Originals, with whom they have collaborated on four colourful, customized Adidas Gazelle sneakers. The sneakers will be presented to an elite guestlist of Barrow’s friends and family and – as befits Senia’s boundary-blurring lifestyle - Ibiza stalwarts Pawsa and Desiree will be manning the decks.
