Gucci Cosmogonie: Connection between past and present for a new future
As a way to celebrate the legacy of its former creative director Alessandro Michele, the house surprises with Cosmogonie. His Cruise 2023 collection under the lens of the outstanding duo of photographers: Mert & Marcus.
In May of this year, Alessandro Michele -former creative director of the brand- surprised with a collection inspired by stars and galaxies. After reading a philosophy essay by Hannah Arendt on the German philosopher Walter Benjamin, the idea of seeing constellations as a concept that unites the past and the present was born in him. Through a fuzzy metaphor, he gave life to his Cruise Collection 2023. He intertwined two times to contextualize the future of the fashion house under Michele's wing.
However, that was interrupted. Approximately two weeks ago, the house experienced the departure of Michele after seven years in charge. However, that did not stop Gucci from continuing to surprise with new projects. To commemorate Michele's legacy, the fashion house launched its Cosmogonie campaign: garments from its cruise 2023 collection that – through images and dramatic charm – tell a new story. Through the lens of prominent photography duo Mert & Marcus, you can see how clothing is paired with accessories that tap into the poetic, the erudite, astronomy, philosophy, and mathematics. The former creative director's most memorable designs come together in a poetic feast of color and silhouette , including 16th-century details; from the Victorian era; the 40s; optical prints from the 70s; and the new Aphrodite bag. Undoubtedly a new constellation that is put into orbit with the creative galaxy of Gucci.
