Dior Men the crossroads between literature, past and present
From the Dior archives dating back to the Yves Saint Laurent period, to the Dior Men by Kim Jones Fall Winter 2023-24 show. A show inspired by the literature of the poet TS Eliot which takes place on the performance of Robert Pattinson and Christie Gwendoline screened on the runway and featured on front row.
The Dior Men show opens with a story recited by Robert Pattinson and Christie Gwendoline projected along the runway. Then comes the orchestra that introduces the release of the models and the new creations of Kim Jones with strings. «The cycle of a fashion house is about regeneration and rejuvenation, just like the cycle of fashion itself. There is always something from the past in the present and in the future and Dior is no different» explained Kim Jones in a press release, «In this collection we wanted to look at the regeneration of the maison after the death of Monsieur Dior and its rejuvenation with Yves Saint Laurent, his chosen heir, drawing a parallel in literature, through images and themes of the wasteland. it is where an old world meets a new, changing and evolving world».
The show is a celebration of the Thames and the Seine, the great rivers of London and Paris with their connotations and their contrasts, they act as literary motifs for TS Eliot and as inspiration for Kim Jones for the autumn winter 2023-24 men 's collection. The water flows of rivers reflect those of fashion, with movement and fluidity being central themes. A continuous dynamism that was also sought after, for example, in the collections proposed by Yves Saint Laurent at the helm of the French Maison at the age of 21.
His first debut collection (the spring-summer 1958 season) was inspired by stories of women who crossed stories of men in a continuous fusion between femininity and masculinity that the current creative director has decided to reinterpret with traditional tailoring, British materials and couturish accents. Silhouettes are softened while clothes are in constant flux and are worn in a way that rewards individuality. Couture accents, tapes dropped as styling elements, sailor tops taken from the archive, polo shirts that stretch to become men's suits, draped knitwear sweaters, nylon overalls and super fluid three-quarter length trousers. Looks are accessorized with hats designed by British hatmaker Stephen Jones and bijoux designed by Yoon Ahn and Matthew M. Williams.
A mise-en-scène of the heritage of Monsieur Christian Dior's Maison, which celebrates the period of Yves Saint Laurent, with a sculptural attitude and the British influence driven by the current creative director.
