Erdem Autumn/Winter 24: the tribute to Maria Callas and Medea at LFW
A bold, theatrical homage that skilfully translates the attitude and femininity of the opera singer Maria Callas. At the British Museum, Erdem Moralioglu presents the autumn winter 2024-25 women's collection.
In the room of the British Museum where the remains of the tympanum of the Parthenon are preserved, Erdem Moralioglu's autumn winter 2024-25 women's collection is on show. « I was inspired by Medea and the life of Maria Callas, she is an example of woman and femininity that fascinated me. It's like the phoenix that is reborn from its own ashes" says the designer backstage at the show, " In the collection I tried to capture and translate her gestures and the way she wore clothes into my clothes using drapes that fall and caress the décolleté, majestic robe manteau, and silk pajamas which nevertheless maintained continuity with her attitude both in her professional and private life".
On a soundtrack that mixes the lyrics of Maria Callas and some of her public interventions, the models parade maintaining a certain royalty. They show off the majesty of shawl dresses, coats with trains, wool fur coats, sheer ruffled dresses and jackets with extra-large lapels that redefine the rectangular silhouette. The marabou flutters on the garments and caresses the ground with the jewelled shoes which over time have confirmed themselves as another Erdem trademark.
And finally there are the decorative virtuosities of Erdem Moralioglu, with his floral and pictorial prints - which recall the stage costumes of Piero Tosi, in the film "Medea" by Pier Paolo Pasolini - the very fine embroideries, the very long leather gloves with a couturish and also the golden tulip-shaped brooches and jewels. A bold and theatrical autumn winter 2024-25 collection that celebrates the female figure, a woman who has left an indelible mark on history with a smart aesthetic translation.
