LOEWE x Howl’s Moving Castle: when craftsmanship meets Studio Ghibli

Combining hand drawing and digital animation, the 'LOEWE x Howl's Moving Castle' collection crystallizes Jonathan Anderson's fascination for the works of Miyazaki.

LOEWE x Howl’s Moving Castle

Fashion and cartooning have a universal language: that of never leaving anyone indifferent. LOEWE Artistic Director, Jonathan Anderson found a resonance of contemporary society with the epic and fantastic 'Howl's Moving Castle '.

'The world we live in needs a counterpoint, which is not so much an escape as a new perspective. This is precisely what Hayao Miyazaki's films for Studio Ghibli offer us. They tell us a lot about our time, of which they represent an alternative imbued with fantasy, emotions and feelings. That's why the third installment of our collaboration with Studio Ghibli is so timely.'

Miyazaki's work tells a story of loyalty and compassion, against a backdrop of magic , encroaching technology and war with destructive effects – 'a context that particularly resonates with the one we know today', adds the designer . Throughout the collection, the main characters of the film animate clothing and accessories . They are designed in leather or shearling intarsia, transformed into embroidery on leather or textile, or adorned with crystals and studs encrusted in the leather. They thus appear on the Puzzle, Flamenco, Hammock, Amazona and Luna bags and on the Bracelet pouch , as well as on pieces of small leather goods, sweaters, jackets and shirts, through appliqué, raffia or of feathers that make them stand out as if they were alive .

'We wanted to talk about these bonds that uplift and exalt us. Of these fantasies that we create, like alternative realities, in order to see the world differently.' To do this, Jonathan Anderson surrounded himself with photographer Juergen Teller to present the campaign for the collection, bringing together Taylor Russell, Rianne Van Rompaey, Oliver O'Sullivan, Hyunji Shin and a sheep. Showing wide smiles and having fun with the different pieces, they project a genuine sense of wonder and amusement.
