Before Lorde was a Grammy-winning artist, she was a 16-year-old from New Zealand with a halo of unruly hair and a deep, hypnotizing voice.

Eight years later, following the release of her hit single “Royals” and her most recent record, Solar Power, the talented singer-songwriter continues to captivate listeners with her emotionally charged lyrics and husky timbre. And while the legendary musician’s sound has evolved over the years, so has her personal style.

At the beginning of her career, the indie singer matched the moodiness of her music with a penchant for all-black ensembles and vampy lipstick, stark against her ivory skin and blue eyes.

And though Lorde never abandoned her stylish edge, the release of her 2017 album, Melodrama, saw the singer mirror her pop-infused music by incorporating pops of color into her apparel. Donning a feather-lined lilac Monique Lhuillier gown at the 2017 VMAs and a voluminous Valentino number a year later at the Grammy’s, it was clear the singer had fallen into step with her new sound.

Following a four-year hiatus from the music industry, Lorde returned to the spotlight in the summer of 2021 with a joyful and luminous aesthetic in a sunny yellow two-piece for her "Solar Power" music video.

In celebration of the iconic singer’s 26th birthday, L’OFFICIEL rounds up a few of her best fashion moments through the years.
