Moncler Re-Envisions the Karakorum Jacket with Re/Icons
Uniting the past with the future, Moncler Re/Icons re-envisions the brand’s signature styles.
Exploration gear but make it fashion. That’s what Moncler has been doing since its inception in 1952, and that’s what they’re still known for today. Under the fluffiest down jackets lie decades of technology and experimentation to create functional outerwear that is as stylish as they are effective. With Re/Icons, the brand has been turning the spotlight to classic styles that have stood the tests of time and the rapidly changing trends in fashion. Last year, the brand celebrated 70 years in the business by refreshing the Moncler Maya jacket. For 2023, all eyes are on the Karakorum jacket.
Initially worn by Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli in 1954 for the first-ever successful summit trek of K2, the puffy Karakorum jacket is designed to keep the wearer toasty without forgoing panache. The jacket comes with a hood, zipper and a double-button closure to retain as much body heat as possible, so you don’t have to listen to your teeth chatter while enjoying your hard-earned view of the Alps.
Though we’ll never be able to experience such extreme cold on our sunny island, the Karakorum down jacket works well in other climates too, especially with its detachable sleeves. Puff vests are great for keeping your torso pleasantly balmy but they’re also a fashion statement. Not everyone can pull off a puffy vest, but those who believe they can, will.
The Karakorum jacket comes in an assortment of colours for both men and women, so you can opt for something timeless or add a bright pop to your winter wardrobe. Matte and nylon finishes give you more variety too. Our favourite detail is the contrast inner lining that colour-blocks the outer layer of the glossy iterations of the jacket, for a bold boost.
