Shop Lily-Rose Depp's Best Looks From 'The Idol'
Whether or not you like the show, Lily-Rose Depp's character has a sense of style worth copying.
It's safe to say that director Sam Levinson's new show, The Idol, hasn't garnered the best reception. What at first seemed scandalous and sexy in a show about exploitation in Hollywood quickly turned gratuitously explicit, so much so that the season is even wrapping up an episode early.
Regardless, Lily-Rose Depp's pop star character, Jocelyn, sure does know how to dress. The costuming done by designer Natasha Newman-Thomas perfectly exudes the glamour of celebrity fame. Yet, in a series about abuse, bordering on romanticization, that allure comes with a certain darkness and apathy, sartorially conveyed through barely-there tops and micro mini skirts that put Jocelyn on full display. So, while people may not be gravitating to the show for its plot or character dynamics, Depp's wardrobe makes a strong case to watch for the fashion.
Keep scrolling to take a look at Jocelyn's best looks in The Idol, and some of our own recommendations to remake the outfits yourself. Just make sure you keep the impeccable style and drop the creepy club owner.

Jocelyn wears this light blue dress when she agrees to go to the club with Dyanne (Jennie Kim). She first meets Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye) in this dress, and the innocuous colour but unlined fabric sets an eerie tone. Unfortunately, the dress is sold out online.
Merano Knit Mini Dress, $350, Moda Operandi
A great option to emulate Jocelyn at this club is this mini dress from A. Roege Hove, that maintains the ribbed texture and strapless squared neckline.
Katrine Ribbed Mini Dress, $274, Farfetch
This mini dress with a shimmering overlay is a great affordable alternative, maintaining the pretty baby blue colour.
Satin Strass Dress, $94, Mango
During her Vanity Fair interview, Jocelyn looks sweet and chic in a silky pink mini dress from Nana Jacqueline. The look puts her Hollywood glamour on full display.
Elisa Dress, $476, Nana Jacqueline
To mimic the piece almost exactly, take a look at this Majorelle dress that also has the crossed straps in the front and feminine ruched silhouette.
Trixie Mini Dress, $248, Revolve
This is a great option to give off a little more of an understated, minimal Jocelyn.
Asymmetric Mini Dress, $279, Fwrd
As Jocelyn rehearses for her music video, she sports a strappy black bra top from Didu, which pairs perfectly with the black skirt and Diesel trainers. It's got side-boob, under-boob, all-the-boob, but Jocelyn pulls it off.
Mini mesh bra, $123, Didu
It's easy to recreate this outfit, just look for a strappy black triangle bikini or bralette, like this one from Tropic of C.
Ischia top, $85, Tropic of C
Jocelyn pairs her Didu top with a micro mini skirt from Danielle Guizio. It gives her all the barely-there coverage she needs when rehearsing her moves for the music video.
Micro mini stretch skirt, $170, Danielle Guizio
Like the top, there are plenty of great black mini-skirt options. To get the sporty look, go for one that's low-rise and breathable.
Garment Dye Mini Tube Skort, $46, Los Angeles Apparel
In the music video Jocelyn films for her new single, she wears a gorgeous Nusi Quero custom. Interestingly, Beyonce also dons the designer in her Renaissance album cover, released after The Idol already filmed Jocelyn's scenes with the outfit. Clearly, the designer knows great music. The bodysuit may not be available for purchase, but there are plenty of other options to rock with confidence that exude Jocelyn's fierce attitude.
Ariella Bodysuit, $78, Revolve
While not a bodysuit, this fierce bra rivals the metallic colour and sexiness of Jocelyn's look. Pair it with its matching suspenders to really match her energy.
Calista Plunge Underwired Bra, $650, Agent Provocateur
Jocelyn wears a Greg Lauren dress from his 2016 collection while performing on tour. The scene was actually filmed during The Weeknd's LA leg of his tour, where Depp came onstage in this jaw-dropping gown, getting authentic gasps and cheers from the audience for the episode. The dress is not available for purchase, but other sheer white maxi dresses look glamorous without looking bridal.
Wetlook Halterneck Long Dress, $4,799, Farfetch
This Jade Cropper dress matches the slouchy and sporty look that made Jocelyn's outfit so effortless and chic.
Off-White Self-Tie Maxi Dress, $552, Ssense
If you're especially in love with the halter neckline of the dress, the simplicity of this gown from Anthropologie makes the cool and stylish high-neck its focal point.
Sachin & Babi Tate High-Neck Halter Gown, $318, Anthropologie
An easy poolside fit as well as a look seen on many of the promotional pictures for the show, Jocelyn wears all Saint Laurent: A Jersey short and plunge-neck velvet top. She keeps it casual with the strapless top and boyshorts.
Plunge-Neck Cropped Velvet Top, $2,665, Selfridges
The burnt orange colour of the top is so cool, and the lacing and vintage look of this bustier from Guess screams fame and excellence.
Lace-up Bustier Top, $330, Guess
Jocelyn pairs the orange Saint Laurent top with a matching pair of shorts, mega high rise and mega little.
Jersey Hot Short, $1,550, Fwrd
Any pair of biker-style shorts gives the same look as the Saint Laurent pair without the $1500 price tag. Alo has a great and popular alternative.
Alosoft Aura Short, $58, Alo
Jocelyn wears this beautiful Maison Margiela black netted maxi dress in the show during a dinner party she hosts with Tedros. The feathered design gives off old-Hollywood glamour, but the see-through look is anything but old-fashioned. It's an incredibly difficult and uncomfortable dinner for Jocelyn as her past abuse is brought up, and the dress makes her look so vulnerable while still poised and elegant.
Semi-Sheer Netted Maxi Dress, $2,430, Yoox
A close match, this maxi dress from St. Agni includes a black sheer and floral pattern that is just as beautiful as the original dress.
Floral Silk-Cotton Maxi Dress, $585, Moda Operandi
The style of Jocelyn's dress has actually become quite trendy, opting for a strappy neckline and black lace that can be dressed up or down to make the silhouette more modern.
NA-KD x Mimi A.R. Strap Detail 90s Midi Dress, $69, Asos
In episode 2, Jocelyn wears an itty-bitty red crop top from Rui and a Kirin leather skirt when she meets up with Tedros. The look reflects her personal style, as it is similar to the Saint Laurent look she wears casually.
Vest Drop Top, $365, Rui
A little sportier, this racerback tank still keeps it minimal and cool.
Goddess Rib Cropped Dynamite Tank, $78, Alo
This lovely leather mini skirt from Kirin pairs so well with Jocelyn's red top. Too bad it's sold out online, but we've got another great option.
Floral Leather Mini Skirt, $398, Saks Fifth Avenue
This Alice + Olivia skirt almost exactly replicates the one from Kirin, with the same black leather and colourful floral detailing.
Riley Embroidered Faux Leather Mini Skirt, $175, The Outnet
