10 WOMEN'S FASHION TRENDS AUTUMN WINTER 2024-25

The luxury fashion houses presented their women's collections for autumn winter 2024-25. In reaction to the quiet luxury trend of last winter, there will be a decorative triumph , with applications, embroidery and prints.

In addition to the return of fur , there is also a strong experimental creativity, often exemplified by creations made in knitwear . Women who love formalwear will throw themselves on the new tailored garments, proposed in a fresh and updated version, with less traditional and didactic interpretations. Paradoxically for winter, the lightness and transparency, which captured everyone's attention - focusing on boldness and feminine sexyness - during the women's fashion shows.

Those who want to invest in a leather item will have the opportunity to choose from the many proposals of the brands, while lovers of nightwear will be able to light up their nights with sparkling garments and metallic inspirations . However, there is also an important focus on movement , which has characterized the fashion shows dedicated to the winter season. Long gloves and mittens in abundance and an immeasurable attention to the silhouettes that appear sculpted with fluid drapes of fabric to enhance the woman's body.

Reinventing Tailoring

Tailoring is rethought by stylists and creative directors who develop the new women's fashion creations for autumn winter 2024-25 . Looking at the garments from another perspective, the most traditional tailoring undergoes variations on multiple levels. From the more flowing and effortless suit brought to the catwalk by Giorgio Armani , to the more utilitarian and military-inspired suits by Maximilian Davis at Ferragamo . Among the many sartorial variations there are also the boxy suits by Prada , the jackets that accentuate the feminine silhouette by Dolce&Gabbana , the deconstructed proposals by Sacai and the more retro ones by Sabato De Sarno at Gucci .

New Fur

Once considered a symbol of luxury and status, fur returns to the women's runways this season, confirming itself as one of the latest trends . From the shaved and ultra-luxury version of Fendi to the super-cocooning ones of Dsquared2 , Dries Van Noten, Saint Laurent and Burberry . Among the most creative interpretations is Francesco Risso with Marni who presents bold silhouettes with long-haired combed fur snippets and modeled and painted versions. Bottega Veneta brings to the runway a cape with an artfully made mix and match of furs, and Jil Sander captures attention with fur coats in unexpected colours.

Sculptural Draping

Draped silhouettes will also return, the volumetric elaborations on the body for the autumn winter 2024-25 season with feminine sculptural drapes. Daniel Lee at Burberry presents a dress structure in sparkling velvet, transparent veils that drape the body of the woman at Saint Laurent and at Balenciaga the creative director Demna presents a dress with a very long drape of fabric that wraps the woman's body.

Metallic Allure

The use of metal is clearly not new to fashion, but next season there will be a significant use of the material for the women's wardrobe. From the historic metal-mesh designed by Gianni Versace and revived with the women's autumn winter 2024-25 collection by Donatella Versace , to the total metallic looks - complete with tinkling headpieces - by Jil Sander designed by Lucie and Luke Meier.

Garments in Motion

From the vibrant ruffles designed on very light dresses by Marco De Vincenzo for Etro , to the sparkling fringes of Valentino , Dior , Mugler, the threads that adorn the constantly moving dresses of Ferragamo, up to the woven leather coats and long dresses of Matthieu Blazy at Bottega Veneta . The study in this case is on design. The key word? Dynamism. Everything develops with clothes that take on different shapes and that follow the movement of the body of the wearer.

Gloves, Gloves, Gloves

Gloves are the protagonists of a trend that emerged from the fall winter 2024-25 runways. From the more pop inspirations such as those of JW Anderson, N°21 and Miu Miu that wink at the cliché of gloves used by desperate housewives, up to the interpretations of long and more couture gloves of Givenchy, Chanel and Max Mara . Nicolas Ghesquière interprets the trend at Louis Vuitton by placing furry gloves on almost all the exits from the show.

Crazy Knitwear

Essential for winter, knitwear is one of those product divisions that becomes more and more creative year after year. New processes, interesting yarns and experimental designs that leave no room for quiet luxury. A knitwear enthusiast, Jonathan Anderson proposes cashmere polos at Loewe with yarns that unravel until they return to simple raw material, and at JW Anderson complete outfits composed of tops and skirts in fisherman's rib made with enormous and decidedly outsized yarns. Lucie and Luke Meier at Jil Sander propose couture-style dresses in crochet with bouclé yarns, Chitose Abe at Sacai offers large-knit sweaters with chromatic contrasts of yarns, and at the Fendi fashion show, creative director Kim Jones brings warm turtlenecks with designs depicting classic icons to the catwalk.

Lightweight & Sexy

Transparencies are nothing new to women's wardrobes, but they draw attention on the catwalks of fashion weeks with very light dresses, very thin dresses that enhance the body and others that reveal the lingerie proudly displayed. Chemena Kamali with her fresh debut at Chloé showed a compilation of organza dresses that floated in the air, melting into ruffles that designed interesting and never predictable volumes. Anthony Vaccarello's show at Saint Laurent is an ode to feminine sexyness with very light garments that caress the body and reveal the models' lines. And finally the desirable proposals of Sabato De Sarno at Gucci, and those of the show presented by Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino, which remain faithful to their creative direction and their aesthetic path.

Decorative

This could be a huge slap in the face to quiet luxury. Because with the women's fashion collections for autumn/winter 2024-25, there is an aesthetic ferment of pure decorativism born in reaction to timeless basicness. Whether it's patterns, embroidery, applications and ornamental decorations, stylists and creative directors are abolishing the plain version in favour of special garments that stand out for something. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons bring dresses covered in hyper-feminine bows and graphic mink fur details to the Prada catwalk, Etro under the creative direction of Marco De Vincenzo opts for patterns on wool coats with gold leaf lamination, while Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Burberry and Rabanne sparkle with Swarovski and rhinestone applications.

Leather

Last but not least, leather , which is confirmed as one of the women's trends for winter 2024-25 . Protective, luxurious, elegant, sexy, minimal and experimental. Leather pervades the collections of stylists and creative directors starting from Ferregamo with the dresses by Maximilian Davis, the jackets by Burberry designed by Daniel Lee, but also the versions by Jonathan Anderson, both for Loewe with double-breasted jackets, and for JW Anderson with a feminine version of the biker jacket perfect for the cold season. Black leather overshirts by Max Mara , voluminous dresses by Marni , total women's looks by Chanel and twin-sets by Givenchy.
