Timothée Chalamet and Martin Scorsese together for the new Bleu de Chanel commercial
The "Call Me By Your Name" and "Dune" actor was directed by one of the most prolific American directors, Martin Scorsese. Together they tell us what it was like to shoot the new commercial for the iconic men's fragrance Chanel on the streets of New York.
«One of the greatest honors» , says Timothée Chalamet regarding how he felt having to shoot with one of the most important directors in the contemporary scene, «if not the greatest honor of my career» . «I'm a New York guy. I'm an actor from New York. It was at the top of my wish list." The commercial is a 90-second film inspired by “Toby Dammit” , part of the 1968 collective film “Tre passi nel delirio” shot by three sacred monsters of cinema, Federico Fellini, Louis Malle and Roger Vadim . «In this short film, I play a kind of caricature of myself» , explains the French Canadian actor.

«What would my life be like if the “advertising” need present in the acting world was all-encompassing? In this short film, I play a character named Simon, who is a kind of trumpeter married to his art more than his relationships." Timothée Chalamet and Martin Scorsese walked the streets of SoHo even late at night. “We were in Queens at four in the morning and he was going up and down the subway stairs,” Chalamet said.

It is not the first time that Scorsese has attempted a Chanel commercial, already in 2010 he filmed the advertising video for the men's fragrance Bleu , starring the late Gaspard Ulliel . Yet between one scene and another he explains how «creating strong and incisive images capable of telling a story in 60 or 90 seconds is probably the most difficult thing to do». “It doesn't matter how long you've been behind a camera, how long you've been trying to tell stories with it.”
