OUR House is YOURS
Celebrating 10 years of Beachouse with Island Hospitality founder Sofija Mehta.
LOI: It’s a decade since Beachouse first opened its doors? Can you tell us about the thrill of those early years?
SM: When we opened Beachouse we were young and carefree and our attitude to life was very open and curious. It was a very beautiful period of living and loving and growing with the island. We never really had plan, instead we were inspired to create a place that could become a home for our new-found community, where we could share our passion for Ibiza and enjoy the bounty of what the island gives us.
LOI: Beachouse was a true pioneer of the beach party scene, particularly with the legendary Rumors parties. Has music always been at the heart of your vision?
SM: We at Beachouse are obsessed about music, in every genre and type! Beachouse was built around our love of music and gatherings with friends and strangers alike, and it will always be our way of expressing the true spirit of the island. The Sunday gatherings at Beachouse were perfect for that era and they will never be recreated, but we have the most incredible memories. Two thousand people dancing in the sand, completely wild and free. Such a treasured time.
LOI: With its sunrise yoga and moonlit dinner series, Beachouse has pivoted in recent years to represent a slower, all-day lifestyle. Is that a reflection of how your own life has evolved?
SM: Absolutely. We have three young children and our days start early! Life now is about a gentler rhythm, rising with the sun and spending our days outdoors and on the beach. We try to live in tune with Mother Nature and with the changing seasons and to teach our children to respect a slower and more thoughtful pace of life. Plus, there is no better way to start the day than with yoga and breakfast on the sand.
LOI: Your family lead an active, plant-based lifestyle. How has that shaped the evolving menu at Beachouse?
SM: Over fifty per cent of the menu at Beachouse is now plant-based, which is something we’re very proud of. Many of our most loved dishes – such as the grilled romaine lettuce and the barbecued corn ribs– are vegetarian. It’s about making conscious choices that contribute to a healthier planet and a more sustainable future for all.
LOI: What is your vision for the future of Beachouse - and for Ibiza itself - as the island and its community continue to adapt and evolve?
SM: Beachouse has always kept evolving but what has never changed is our spirit. Beachouse is a warm, welcoming, inclusive home-from-home for both our Ibiza family and for friends old and new from far and wide. As we celebrate our tenth anniversary, we renew our commitment to a laidback, barefoot lifestyle that honours the simple things – good food, great music and a conscious, connected community.
