Ibiza’s best parties are on the move
From beach clubs to techno shows to chi-chi cabaret shakedowns, Ibiza’s best parties are going international. Here’s the lowdown.
In its heyday, Tito’s nightclub was the epicentre of Mallorca’s glossy nightlife scene, as hundreds of national and international stars - including Marlene Dietrich, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield and Shirley Bassey – flocked to play at Palma’s most elegant nightclub. In the century since Tito’s opened, the club remained a byword for glamour and excess on the smartest of the Balearic Islands.
Earlier this year, following a multi-million-euro renovation, the Paseo Maritimo nightspot is once again on everyone’s lips in its new reincarnation as Lío Mallorca, part of the Pacha superbrand. Coinciding with the hundredth anniversary of this nightclub, which opened its doors for the first time in 1923, Lío has returned this showstopper of a club to its original purpose, as an upmarket cabaret club and disco in the heart of the city. Reviving the club's theatical essence has been the driving force behind the group's decision to return it to its original distribution, with seven distinct levels arranged in a fan formation.
Nights at Lío Mallorca begin with Palma’s most elegant supper, a candlelit affair served against a backdrop of extraordinary theatrical talent - including singers, dancers and acrobats - in a high-octane cabaret show based on interaction with the audience. The artists greet diners at the door and dance among the tables, creating an atmosphere of unstoppable energy as the clientele dance with the performers. After midnight, the tables are moved away to create a vast dancefloor as the nightclub opens to the public, recreating the glamorous spirit of yesteryear when Charles Chaplin, Grace Kelly and Sean Connery were regulars in the room. An icon in the making.
