Mikasa and the moon
The boutique hotel and vegan restaurant takes inspiration from Ibiza’s lunar cycles.
Ibiza has long been associated with the moon. Tanit, the most important goddess in the Phoenician pantheon, was the de-facto goddess of Ibiza and governed harvesting, fertility and the moon. In some cultures, she is simply referred to as the Moon Goddess. Tanit’s enduring influence can be felt across the island, not least at boutique hotel Mikasa, where each individual room is inspired by a different phase of the moon.
Tuesday November 8th is the night of the Frost Moon – so called because its arrival traditionally heralds the onset of winter – and guests at Mikasa are invited to spend the evening with the Ibiza-based astronomer Teresa Marí to learn about the lunar cycles, set intentions and watch the lunar eclipse through Marí’s telescopes. The event starts from 7pm and tickets are €55 per person to include a three-course dinner and talk.
In the coming months, Mikasa’s schedule softens to accommodate the changing seasons. An autumn-inspired weekday prix fixe lunch menu changes weekly with seasonal ingredients inspired by the flora of Ibiza. On Saturdays, the community-inspired soul food brunch offers pretty sharing plates and a live DJ on the roof, the perfect place to kick back with unrivalled views of the Dalt Vila skyline.
‘This time of the year is the most precious,’ says Mikasa owner Sofija Mehta. ‘It is beautiful to see how the island is alive all year round and how the island’s resident community comes together to honour the changing seasons and to feast and celebrate. There is always something special happing in winter, which is why Mikasa and its sister restaurant, Finca la Plaza in Santa Gertrudis, will stay open longer this year.’
