The Miami-based music production and DJ duo Bedouin – AKA Tamer Malki and Rami Abousabe – have pioneered a distinctive and timeless sound that draws on diverse influences including their Middle Eastern heritage, Western upbringing and global travels.
Bedouin’s complex musical productions have been released on some of the world’s most notable labels - Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, All Day I Dream and their own imprint, Human By Default - and the duo's distinctive sound and creative style have garnered them a cult global following.
Tamer and Rami's Saga by Bedouin party at Pacha (reopening May 24th) has become one of Ibiza’s most escapist parties, with an exotic, desert-influenced soundtrack and multi-layered visual aesthetic that is in turns both mythical and mysterious. L’OFFICIEL IBIZA caught up with Bedouin to find out what influences their intriguing musical style.
The best party we've ever played at:
Not to be biased but our own party Saga at Pacha! Jokes aside, in 2023 so far, we’ve really enjoyed playing with our dear friend Damian Lazarus at Day Zero and Get Lost. We also really enjoyed playing with Marco Carola at Music On at Miami Music Week this year. We’re also looking forward to returning to some of our favourite island parties this summer such as Circoloco at DC-10 and Black Coffee at Hï.
A moment that defined or changed our career:
We’ve had quite a few pivotal moments over the past few years…The launch of our label Human By Default in 2020. Our Cercle set. Saga’s move to Pacha last summer and dropping our first ever album this year. There have been a few!
The person we’d most like to collaborate with is:
Musically…maybe Beyonce? We wonder if she’s heard our edit of PURE/HONEY. Beyonce - if you’re reading this, call us! In terms of fashion, we just sent some designs of our own to production that will be available on the island this summer, so keep a lookout!
The most memorable trip we've ever taken:
Probably our trip to Jordan for our Cercle stream. We played live at the Grand Treasury in the Lost City of Petra. That was pretty out there!
The objects we’ll never part with:
Tamer: I have this penguin statue that I got when I first moved to the States and now it hangs in my studio - I hope I’ll have it forever.
Rami: I have original paintings from my grandfather who was a famous painter in Egypt. I’ll never let those go. They inspire me every day.
Our ultimate Ibiza memory is:
Between personal memories with our closest friends and family and major musical and career moments - there’s too many to choose from. Every year, we make more and more memories. Maybe last year's top memory was our opening night at Pacha…maybe in 2017, it was our opening night for Saga on the island.
Our favourite weekend break:
We spend most weekends touring so a weekend break for us is spending quality time at home with our family. It’s important to rest and recharge and we don’t take those break weekends for granted!
Our greatest luxury:
We’re eternally grateful for flat beds on aeroplanes. Seriously, they save our lives when we have an insane touring weekend and are such a luxury that we’re blessed to be able to afford.
A new artist whose work excites us:
We’re really inspired and excited by the artists who are releasing on our label Human By Default. We get demos from artists all over the world and it’s so exciting to bring some of the best up and coming underground talent into the spotlight. We feature a lot of upcoming artists on our line-up for Saga so we always recommend getting to the club early – we guarantee that most of our opening artists are on their way to being headliners in the near future.
