Tina Turner, queen of rock 'n' roll, dies at 83

Singer Tina Turner passed away yestetday at the age of 83. Her musical influence and girl empowerment will never be forgotten. His husky, silky voice has inspired generations of rock and soul musicians. "Tina Turner, the 'Queen of Rock 'n Roll' passed away peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness at her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland," her family said in a statement on Wednesday May 24, 2023. "With her, the world loses a music legend and a female role model."

Starting with her performances with ex-husband Ike, from whom she rebelled following domestic abuse, Tina has created a volcanic and uninhibited stage presence. Even with choreographed back-up singers — both with Ike and throughout her own career — Tina never accepted being cornered. The stage was his. Her influence on rock, R&B and soul singing and performance has also exemplified the likes of Mick Jagger and Mary J. Blige, and her stage presence, including oversized wigs, has reached over to Janet Jackson and Beyoncé. Turner's message—one that resonated with generations of women musicians after her—was that she could stand up to any man on stage.

Turner has received twelve Grammy Awards , as well as three Grammy Hall of Fame awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award . In December 2005, she was honored with Kennedy Center Honors for her performances, joining a circle of artists that also included Aretha Franklin , Ray Charles , Little Richard , and Chuck Berry.  With over 100 million copies sold worldwide, Tina Turner has been one of the most successful recording artists in modern music history.
