People of Ibiza: Dewi Driegen
The Netherlands-born model has found a second home in Ibiza, where life revolves around simple pursuits such as nature, animals and sport.
‘I grew up in Amsterdam but I left quite early for my modelling career, so I’ve always felt very nomadic. First, I moved to Paris and then to New York. I had always been coming to Ibiza with my parents since I was very young. They were hippies from the Netherlands and they’d known the island forever, since the old days. I moved here by accident really. Four years ago, I came here with one of my dogs to spend the winter somewhere where the weather was bright and warm and I never really left. Ibiza can do that to you. Life here is very calm and it just flows. I play a lot of sport, padel and golf in summer. In August I’m out on the water all day because it gets so hot. I live with my animals – all my cats and dogs – who have become like my family. I’ve always had an incredible connection to nature since I was a child. I find that in Ibiza all connections are strengthened – whether that’s to people or animals or just the planet itself. I always notice when I travel for work how people in cities live in a very divided way. Ibiza feels so combined, like a beautiful mix of open hearts. I’m so happy here.’
