Julia Garner is the Frontrunner to Play Madonna in Upcoming Biopic
If accepted, the 'Ozark' and 'Inventing Anna' actress would have beat stars like Alexa Demie, Florence Pugh, and Bebe Rexha to the role of a lifetime.
The search is over! According to Variety, the role of Madonna has been offered to 'Ozark' and 'Inventing Anna' star Julia Garner in her upcoming biopic, beating out previously-reported candidates like actresses Alexa Demie ('Euphoria'), Florence Pugh ('Little Women', 'Black Widow', 'Midsommar'), and Odessa Young ('Mothering Sunday'), and singers – Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira to the role of a lifetime, directed by Madonna herself.
If accepted by the actress and her team, Garner will portray Madonna in the formative years of her career in the film.
Madonna hopes the role will "convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world."
She continues: "The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
The film will be developed by Universal Pictures, co-written by Madonna and Academy Award Winner Diablo Cody, and produced by Three-Time Academy Award Nominee Amy Pascal. “Madonna is the ultimate icon, humanitarian, artist and rebel," says Donna Langley, Chairman, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, in her statement upon announcement.
"With her singular gift of creating art that is as accessible as it is boundary-pushing, she has shaped our culture in a way very few others have. It’s an incredible honour for everyone at Universal to work alongside her, Diablo, and Amy to bring audiences and dedicated fans around the world her unvarnished story for the first time.”
If her performance in 'Ozark' and 'Inventing Anna' is anything to live by, we're sure Garner will do a fabulous job at the role should she choose to accept it.
