The eternal queen: history and legacy of Elizabeth II
We remember one of the most important figures in universal history, whose style and image will remain a perpetual inspiration for generations for a whole century.
A figure that stands out in the contemporary history of the old continent and the world political sphere of the 20th and 21st centuries, his legacy has been the longest in the United Kingdom, surpassed only by Louis XIV of France, iconically known as the Sun King, and of the universal registers. After health complications , today , September 8, 2022 , Elizabeth II , the eternal queen , passed away .
His story can be told from a historical event that shocked the United Kingdom . At the end of 1936, King Edward VIII, who had ascended the throne a year earlier, submitted his abdication to marry an American woman (who was not royalty and was also divorced) named Wallis Simpson. Being one of the most talked about scandals of the time, it was decided that Alberto, his younger brother, would become the new king. His real name was George VI , father of the then Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary , born a decade earlier on April 21 , 1926 .
In 1947, Elizabeth married Prince Philip , Duke of Edinburgh , with whom she conceived Charles , Anne , Andrew, and Edward . Philip passed away at Windsor Castle in April 2021, two months shy of his centenary.
A REIGN LIKE NO OTHER
Crowned after her father's death on February 6, 1953, she ruled for 70 years on the throne of England and the Commonwealth countries .
With only 25 years of age , Isabel took the reins of the Crown with courage and impetus . His leadership skills shone through ineffability from day one, his strength was beyond words.
His reign was involved in a maelstrom of historical events, from catastrophic wars, the most important of which was World War II , to diplomatic events. He saw 14 prime ministers parade, including Winston, Churchill and Margaret Thatcher.
His impact went beyond royalty and into extraordinary worlds , including fashion and popular culture . One of the most emblematic moments in the music industry was the one in which the queen recognized and honored the work of The Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney , George Harrison and Ringo Starr) with the title of members of the Order of the British Empire ( Members of the Order of the British Empire , MBE, for its acronym in English), in the distant and idyllic 1965. However, it caused a conservative reaction on the part of veterans, military and civic leaders, since the honor was rarely given to artists. John Lennon himself relinquished his award four years later , as he was against Britain's involvement in the Nigerian Civil War , as well as its support for US forces in Vietnam . Instead, Paul was made Sir . in 1997.
In the world of fashion, Isabel, an eternal symbol of style, also left an indelible mark. Some of the trends that made her classic personality shine: silhouettes with bright colors and , sometimes , disruptive hats ; matching scarves with gorgeous coats ; feather headdresses and tweed ensembles .
Looking back, elegance remained the monarch's characteristic brooch. We remember the dress with marked shoulders, tight sleeves and a sweetheart neckline that she wore on her wedding day, created by Norman Hartnell. With an enviable demeanor , she wore 10,000 embroidered pearls and encrusted glass and sequins that recalled the wheat and flowers in Botticelli 's Spring .
LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!
Last June, the first Silver Jubilee in British history was celebrated in the United Kingdom to celebrate Elizabeth II's seven decades as ruler. Firms like Burberry joined the international summer party. During the activities, Prince Charles and Prince William were present.
Other jubilees that are celebrated are the following: Silver Jubilee at 25 years, Ruby Jubilee at 40 years, Golden Jubilee at 50 years, Diamond Jubilee at 60 years and Sapphire Jubilee at 65 years.
With the splendid iridescent shine of a platinum celebration and the love that the entire planet professed for her , a woman departed who could hardly be separated from her real figure in history, but who left an equally endearing legacy in each of the places and moments in which it existed.
