French artist Charles Burnex brings his art to Ibiza for an exclusive show.

Galería También in Santa Gertrudis will exhibit his work until the end of June.

Heavily inspired by the street art found in his native city of Paris, Charles Burnex began his artistic career at the tender age of 13, leaving school at 17 to pursue his passion full time.

‘I started five years ago. I started in the street. I was putting posters up and I was also collecting stickers, the street art ones you see around Paris. When I was collecting them, I started to meet some of the artists and eventually collaborated with some of them. I started when I was very young, so I at this time nobody knew me, but I had the idea that on the streets you can have big visibility and without having any connection with anybody. This was my starting point’, he explains.

At only 19 years of age, the exhibition in Ibiza will be the second solo show that the artist has held in Spain, with the first in 2022 at the Llorens Artigas de Gallifa Foundation in Barcelona. Burnex is close friends with Tal Dreyfuss, the son of designer couple Jerôme Dreyfuss and Isabel Marant, who have a house on the island, though this was his only connection to Ibiza until Galería También owners and huge admirers of the artist, Jorge Fernández and Natalie Rich, reached out to him to organise an exhibition.

Citing street artists such as Cleon Peterson, Zoo Project, Philippe Baudelocque and Kraken as influences as well as Medieval imagery, he works across a range of mediums including painting, ceramics, drawing, sculpture and fabric. Though it frequently shifts, his current favourite method of expression is the airbrush, often applying it to rugs and carpets, a type of tactility that he enjoys his audience to experience at his exhibitions.

Although still working from his bedroom, the raw talent of Charles Burnex means he’ll be blowing up into the big time in the very near future.
