Everything We Know About the 2023 Met Gala

This year, the first Monday in May falls on May 1, and we couldn't be more excited. Held annually the benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, the 2023 Met Gala theme has finally been announced, and pays tribute to none other than Karl Lagerfeld. The highly anticipated star-studded event will include an evening of glitz, glamor, art, and fashion, all while honoring the legacy of the late designer.

“He would sketch everything. He would always say that he could draw before he could talk or walk. In many ways it was his primary form of communication, whether he was delivering them by fax machine or iPhone," stated designer Andrew Bolton on Vogue's Instagram, "So at its heart, the exhibition will look at the evolution of Karl’s two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional garments... It was almost a secret code, a language shared between him and those premiers, that only they could fully decipher."

The chief sponsor of the exhibit will be Chanel, which will be supported by Fendi, Condé Nast, and Lagerfeld’s own fashion brand. The co-chairs and hosts of the event have yet to be announced. We’re excited to see how creative directors, designers, artists, and celebrities incorporate Lagerfeld’s legacy into their own looks for the night.
