Sometimes children&#39;s books become the only refuge for the inner child, when the adult shell is engrossed in the vortex of livelihood.

I've never been ashamed to say my favourite <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/the-author-kathleen-king-shares-her-wild-and-windswept-formentera-winters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">author</a> writes children's stories, simply because I know I'm not the only one.
According to a report by The Business Research Company, the global children and youth <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/giorgio-armani-40th-anniversary-book-per-amore" target="_blank" rel="noopener">book</a> publishing industry is expected to grow by about 4.9% in 2022, as many publishing companies are recovering from the pandemic. The market is expected to reach $13 billion by 2026, with an annual growth rate of about 3.5%.

<a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/beauty/emma-watson-harry-potter-directs-and-fronts-prada-beauty-fragrance-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harry Potter</a> and the Philosopher's Stone is still a monument in popular culture, although few people understand JK Rowling anymore. Or when reading aloud the sentence &ldquo;There are two cats sitting by the window,&rdquo; somewhere someone hums, &ldquo;One cat sits still, the other changes places.&rdquo;

In such a large industry, it's odd to think I'm the only one who's grown up and still loves reading children's stories.

The charm of children&#39;s books

Peter Pan is a book that has been reprinted hundreds of times in all languages, has been adapted into movies and TV shows, and appeared on theatrical stage. I myself own many versions of this work, and the one I admire the most is Peter Pan in the drawing of MinaLima Design, translated by Dong A and Literary Publishing House, and published in Vietnam.

Not all books are invested like that, but children's books are always beautiful, there is always a break between the lines. Be it an <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/portraits/the-art-of-illustrating-by-benjamin-lacombe" target="_blank" rel="noopener">illustration</a>, it can be a blank page, this break not only helps children visualize the story, but it is also a lifesaver for adults with low attention span, helping them get used to reading, with easier words. Children's books are often short, can be read in just a few hours, even a few minutes, so they are easier to absorb.

Those who criticize simple children's books have probably never read I Am Beto or The Little Prince. Children's books are aimed at young readers, so they have a characteristic innocence, but because they are written by adults, that innocence is intertwined with very sensitive and experienced observations. The way to solve the problem is simple but not lacking in fairness, not forgetting the virtue of sacrifice that the author has learned in the process of growing up. The loss, tolerance, love, hatred... are interpreted by the author with the clear and bright soul of a child.

Length does not equate to depth.

The healing power of children&#39;s books

According to the theory of <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/soul-spirituality/depression-how-to-treat-it" target="_blank" rel="noopener">psychologist</a> Carl Jung, within each of us there is a child who represents repressed emotions. For example, in the past, you've probably heard the phrase "when you grow up, you won't cry anymore," or "just be good and you can do whatever you want," or "kids don't know anything." Jung believes that these statements unintentionally hurt young children, so that children grow up not knowing how to express very basic emotions such as sadness, anger, feeling rebellious, and confused about gender and sexual orientation. The goal of Jungian therapy is to heal this inner child.

Reading children&#39;s books made it easier for me to return to that child. The first time I read with my eyes closed while opening the window , I felt like a kid again, like I was playing marbles in the yard with the kids in the neighborhood. Emotions are the first step in the healing journey. I wandered in the world of my childhood, finding a few pieces of memories that seemed to have been forgotten, to untie the knots that still make me choke. Children&#39;s books contain hope for many. Maybe the author doesn&#39;t use magic elements, but there will always be miracles. You&#39;ll probably never find a wonderland in the back of your closet, but similar to the protagonist, you get to be with your loved one, rule your own world together, and you get Miracles also exist in real life.

On the contrary, there are times when reading children&#39;s books to breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that you are not the Chosen One, do not have to live in a sacred forest, or are not so rebellious as to cause the death of a friend. house next door. Children&#39;s books offer such hope for us to keep trying in real life, forgiving when we make mistakes. And if one day being an adult is too boring, I transform into a witch roaming the country with a talking cat.

Limitations of children&#39;s books

Perhaps the biggest problem with children's books is the balance between fact and fiction. On the one hand, as adults, we want the child to have an innocent, happy, laughter-filled <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/hommes/childhood-dreams-with-louis-vuitton-men-s-2023-spring-summer-show" target="_blank" rel="noopener">childhood</a>. On the other hand, as children, we don't want to read a dogmatic story, or a story that's too simple just because adults think we don't understand. And not every family is full of parents, not every childhood is full of joy.
Both adults and children want to approach issues such as war, conflict, death... in a straightforward yet age-appropriate manner. In 2021, writer Vo Dieu Thanh said that this is the reason why not many authors write for children. Writer Nguyen Quang Thieu also said that in Vietnam, there is no proper awareness of the necessity of children's literature in art and literature.

But this is slowly changing.

Most recently, on TikTok emerged a children&#39;s book called Purple My Shadow about gender diversity and promoting self-belief. In Vietnam, there&#39;s the wild Chang - Bear about his journey to rescue Sorya the bear from animal traffickers, or the wonderful new Different series that sends a message about diversity and individual differences. Of course, this change is welcome. Imagine always being called &quot;the future nursery of the country&quot; but never being allowed to participate in the discussion of &quot;adult affairs&quot;.

Children&#39;s works leave their mark when they find a balance – complex themes are explained in a simple tone of voice, innocence blends seamlessly with life experiences, not to mention beautiful illustrations and ways of life. fresh approach. So, aren&#39;t children&#39;s books more readable than adult economic novels?
