Leo Woodall is Bridget Jones' new love interest in "Bridget Jones 4"

The fourth installment of the famous film series will follow Bridget Jones in her life as a single mother.

While we thought Bridget Jones' escapades were over, it seems we were wrong. A fourth Bridget Jones film is in the works. Titled Bridget Jones: Mad About Him , its release is scheduled for Valentine's Day 2025.

According to Deadline , Renée Zellweger , who plays the lead role of Bridget Jones, has reached a deal with Universal Pictures to reprise the character this year, so it is unlikely that filming on the film has begun. However, there are some exciting new details (and new cast members) that might just keep viewers in suspense until the film's release date.

Here's what we know so far about Bridget Jones: Crazy About Him .

The casting

As many hoped, Renée Zellweger will return to her role as TV presenter Bridget Jones. However, before Colin Firth fans get their hopes up, the actor will not be returning to play Mark Darcy. The actor's absence from the film isn't due to scheduling conflicts or a recast - the plot of the new film simply doesn't include his character.

If you remember any tidbits from the latest edition of the Bridget Jones series, you might remember Hugh Grant 's character, the ultimate f-boy of Generation X, Daniel Cleaver, who was allegedly found alive while many thought he died in a plane crash. It was rumored that Hugh Grant would reprise the role of Cleaver in Bridget Jones: Mad About Him . For fans of the handsome and dashing but slightly alcoholic Daniel Cleaver, this is good news.

Emma Thompson played the role of Bridget's obstetrician in the third film. Bridget Jones' baby is also expected to make an appearance in the film, but it is not yet known for how long or for what reason. Will Bridget have another baby in this movie that Thompson 's character, Dr. Rawling, will help deliver?

As for newcomers, Leo Woodall , who recently starred in the Netflix miniseries One Day , and British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor are also expected to join the cast. Vogue reports that Leo Woodall could play Bridget Jones' new love interest.

The plot

Although there are still many unknowns, the film will follow the plot of Helen Fielding 's book after which the film is named, Bridget Jones: Mad About Him . In the upcoming film, Mark Darcy would have died after being killed by a mine explosion in Sudan, and Bridget Jones would have to raise her two children alone, which Hollywood says is never ideal when you're in your 50s . According to Vogue , Leo Woodall could play the role of a sexy professor who teaches at Bridget's children's school. This could lead our adorable main character to another happy ever after. As of now, it's unclear how Thompson 's Dr. Rawling and Grant 's Daniel Cleaver will play into the plot, and Ejiofor 's character is also in question.
