The Pogue journey continues. After the premiere of Outer Banks Season 3, Netflix has already confirmed renewal for Season 4. What's in store for our favorite Pogues? Well, based on the third season finale, we are sure to be in for more drama, action, suspense, and romance. As we wait for more official details to be revealed, we will be impatiently waiting in anticipation of what's to come. Below, here's everything we know about the Season 4 of Outer Banks.

Cast

While nothing is confirmed, we can assume that the main cast will likely return. This includes Madelyn Cline (Sarah), Chase Stokes (John B.),  Madison Bailey (Kie), Jonathan "J.D." Daviss (Pope), and Rudy Pankow (JJ). Another character we may expect to see is Cleo, played by Carlacia Grant, who was confirmed as a series regular for Season 3.

Plot details have yet to be released. However, the Season 3 finale left fans on the edge of their seats as it seemed the Pogues might be embarking on a whole new quest. But before we get to possible storylines in Season 4, let's look back at all the major events of Season 3. *Warning: Spoilers ahead*

After being rescued from their deserted island, the Pogues believe they were headed to safety. Instead, they find themselves in Barbados with Kiara kidnapped by a mysterious mafioso-esque businessman, Carlos Singh, who is looking for El Dorado, the Lost City of Gold. Although she escapes (with some questionable assistance from her unlikely co-hostage, Rafe) and finds her friends with a way off the island, John B opts for other means of transport back to the Outer Banks: his presumed-dead father, Big John.

While returning home to their families was certainly a joyous occasion for many, John B starts to see his father as the obsessive treasure hunter that he is, rather than the beloved father he missed. Between coaxing John B into committing felonies, committing actual murder himself (although some could argue it was self-defense), and keeping secrets from the group, it seems Big John may be just as dangerous as some of the other ill-fated paternal figures in the series (*cough* Ward *cough*). However, when Singh kidnaps Big John and takes him to South America to translate the idol and unlock the final clue to finding El Dorado. Thus begins the group's rescue mission.

On the road to saving Big John, there's still the typical teenage drama—backsliding with an ex (Sarah), finding out your girlfriend/wife cheated on you (John B), worrying about your future (Pope), having feelings for your best friend (Kiara and JJ), getting shipped off to a boot camp-style reform school by your parents (Kiara), saving your friend from a boot camp-style reform school (JJ), etc.

Finally, after setback upon setback, the group reluctantly agrees to take Ward's plane to South America, with him as an unwelcome passenger. There, John B and Sarah rescue Big John and head out on the road to El Dorado, as Cleo, Pope, Kiara, and JJ find their own way. But just when Big John has decoded the idol, Singh shows up, at the behest of Ward, to take the idol in exchange for sparing Sarah. However, Sarah proves to Big John that she is not her father's daughter by threatening to shoot Ward before running off with the Routledge men.

Wounded, Big John sends John B and Sarah into a cave that eventually leads them to El Dorado. Returning with some of their treasures, they find Singh preparing to kill Big John who, instead, blows up the cave, killing Singh. Not long after they find themselves on the other end of Ward's gun before the rest of the Pogues, armed with machetes, ambush him. But when Singh's righthand man arrives and threatens to kill Sarah, Ward finally gets his redemption arc by tackling him, sending both men over the side of a cliff. And in another stroke of tragedy, as the group rushes to get Big John to a hospital, he dies in his son's arms.

Jumping ahead 18 months, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo are all being honored for their discovery of El Dorado in front of the entire town. Sarah and John B seem to still be going strong running a surf shop; Kiara is back to saving her turtles; Pope is heading to college; JJ bought a boat. Everything seems to be perfect, but as the group joins the town in celebrating their achievement, a man approaches the group with a manuscript he needs investigated: the captain's log of Captain Edward Teach a.k.a. Blackbeard. If this is the setup for Season 4 that it seems to be, then the Pogues will be getting a taste of the pirate life.

While Season 3 finally saw the Pogues take home a win, there are still a few unanswered questions: What happened to Rafe? Are Sarah's stepmom and sister coming back to the OBX? Is Limbrey really healed? Did she come to collect when she realized the shroud Big John gave her was a fake? Are Cleo and Pope together? Are Kiara and JJ still together? And, for the skeptics, is Ward really dead? Falling over a cliff feels quite final, but it wouldn't be the first time someone on this show came back to life.

Considering the announcement for renewal just happened, it will be a while before we have an official release date. Based on the release schedules from past seasons, we likely won't see the fourth season drop earlier than mid-2024.
