Laura Castro: The Island as Her Eternal Muse

Resortwear Designer & Creative Director

Laura Castro translates the untamed beauty of Ibiza into effortlessly elegant resortwear. Just as the island inspires her life, it now shapes her label: PORTA. With a background in creative direction and an instinctive eye for design, Laura returns to her roots this summer, launching her own brand and stepping into a new role as a correspondent for L’Officiel Ibiza. Her creative rhythm is now deeply entwined with the soul of the island: free-spirited, sun-soaked and quietly powerful.

My personal style signifiers are...
My Ray-Ban Wayfarer rarely leave my face – they’re timeless and effortless. I also never go without my Ibicenco jewellery by Elisa Pomar. For me, it’s the best in the world: raw, rooted and exquisitely understated.

The last thing I bought and absolutely loved...
A handwoven basket from Dragon Diffusion – it's one of those forever pieces. Beautifully crafted, and I know it’ll only get better with age.

And the thing I’ve got my eye on next...
A vintage Gucci handbag from the Tom Ford era. That period of Gucci? Utterly iconic.

My style icons are...
Women who knew how to express individuality through style: Jane Birkin, Bianca Jagger, Erin Wasson, and of course, Kate Moss – eternal and effortless.

My work has taught me...
To hold a clear vision and move steadily towards it. Dreams don’t manifest overnight – they’re built, refined, and lived into existence.

My work icons and mentors are...
I’m lucky to have crossed paths with so many inspiring people. Each meeting feels like its own little university. If you stay curious, there’s always something new to learn.

The carry-on essentials I’m never without...
Sunscreen, always. And a bikini in the summer – you just never know when the sea will call.

In Ibiza, we need to be extra aware of...
Not altering its spirit too much. The island has a soul, and we’re all responsible for protecting it.

My favourite Ibiza beach is...
S’Illot des Renclí, close to home in the north – quiet, rugged and full of charm.

My secret spot is...
The Church Bar in San Miguel. There’s something so nostalgic about ending a beach day with a drink there. It’s the Ibiza I fell in love with, and hope never changes.

My go-to party pal is...
My boyfriend is my number one partner-in-crime, but when he’s not up for a night out, I call my dear friend Annie Doble. We always end up somewhere unexpected – and that’s the magic.

The best place to dance in Ibiza is...
DC10, hands down. But truthfully, nothing compares to a villa party under the stars – barefoot, music loud, friends close. That’s the essence of the island.

I couldn’t live without...
Excitement, creativity and the thrill of new projects. I need that pulse.

My top Ibiza souvenir is...
A day spent treasure-hunting at the San Jordi market. There’s always something waiting to find you.

I’d take a lunch date to...
Cala Xuclar for something barefoot and spontaneous, or Paloma for its curated charm. Both are little pockets of paradise.

If I could encourage people in Ibiza to do one thing, it would be to...
Be spontaneous. Be creative. And jump into the sea at night – just once. It’s unforgettable.

A recent island find is...
A breathtaking horse-riding spot in Formentera. It was like galloping through a dream.

My Ibiza life began...
I was born here, so it’s always been home. After 17 years living in cities like Amsterdam, Paris and London, I’ve come back – to grow vegetables, raise chickens and create the life I once imagined. Ibiza has it all: culture, community and an unmistakable magic.

Something I would never part with is...
My instinct, my playfulness, and the ability to dream.

My favourite apps are...
Yuka – I’m obsessed with scanning everything lately.

A great book I read recently was...
City of Girls – witty, vibrant and such a joyful read.

If I weren’t a creative director, I’d have been...
An interior designer. I’ve always been drawn to the way spaces shape emotion – it’s another kind of storytelling.

Ibiza in three words is...
Best. Place. Ever.
