A highly anticipated film at the 81st Venice Film Festival . Luca Guadagnino returns to the limelight with the romantic and dramatic film "Queer" starring Daniel Craig , along with Drew Starkey. Always a fan of the writing of William S. Burroughs - author of the very crude "Naked Lunch" , close to the American beat generation but by his own admission very far from the reality of beatniks and hippies - Luca Guadagnino is said to have cultivated the release of this film for 35 years. The novel "Queer", is the sequel to the book "Junkie" and is considered a sort of autobiography written between 1951 and 1953 but published in 1985.

After the success of "Challengers", "Bones and All" and of course "Call Me by Your Name" Guadagnino returns to the big screen with the film "Queer" which was shot last July in the Cinecittà studios, where the set of Mexico City where the film is set was also reconstructed. And with the latest film, Guadagnino reconfirms his collaboration with Jonathan Anderson for the creation of the costumes : «I am very very very proud to have created the costumes for this wonderful film by my best friend Luca Guadagnino with the best costume design team in the world».

THE PLOT OF THE MOVIE "QUEER"

"I read the book when I was 17 and as a boy I wanted to change the world with cinema. I read the title of this book, at the time called "Diverso", and this gave me something really important: a deep connection, a description on the page between what happens between the two characters, with no judgment in romance. [...] All this has changed me forever, I want to be faithful to that young man I was, I wanted to bring this novel to the big screen and I hope that at the end of this film you have an idea of yourself, who we are when we are alone, who we are looking for regardless of where we come from or our sexual gender" Luca Guadagnino said in a press conference at the Venice Film Festival.

The film follows the story told in the dramatic novel by William S. Burroughs. The events are those of the protagonist Lee (alter ego of the author), played by Daniel Craig, lived in the "Interzone" of Mexico City or Panama. In the post-war historical context of the 50s, the protagonist falls in love with Allerton , Drew Starkey, an ambiguous young man who hangs out in promiscuous places populated by characters on the edge of society, who also convey the rawness of heroin addictions, the themes related to pedophilia and sex, all told with the black humor and literary coldness of the American author.
