How to make the (perfect) table for the holidays
How to prepare a textbook table.
And the mistakes not to be made.
Everyone will put his personal touch, but to draw up this handbook we asked a professional in the sector, Martino Crespi, owner of the homonymous agency - his tables prepared for dinners for Bulgari , Ferragamo , Pommery, La Rinascente ... and many show business personalities - who suggested a sort of handbook for following etiquette and being excellent hosts.
First of all, you need to use the plates, cutlery and glasses that the occasion deserves, if possible crystal glasses and silver cutlery , a plate and a saucer for bread. A tablecloth (well ironed, also on the sides) and the relative napkins. It is elegant to provide a placeholder for the guests, preferably handwritten, and jugs for water (it is better not to use bottles). Finally, the table must be well lit, with candles and battery lamps.
On this occasion, Christmas-themed decorations are fine (pine cones, berries, branches, as well as some objects, such as boule à neige) consistent with the rest. But you must always keep in mind the environment and the style of the place where the table will be set, and try to make coherent color combinations with regard to plates, glasses and tablecloths. And don't forget a nice aperitif before sitting down at the table.
MISTAKES NOT TO BE MADE
Do not use plastic plates and cups and paper napkins, nor crockery from different services; also avoid setting the table with only one glass or one change of cutlery per guest. On this occasion, no placemats or runners. The table must have the right dimensions to be welcoming and comfortable for everyone, as well as beautiful, and never overloaded.
And pay attention to the decorations, at least on holy days, it's better not to go off topic...
