Who are you Justine Triet?
Three films were enough to register Justine Triet among the filmmakers who count. Her second selection in official competition at Cannes is anything but a surprise.
This is how it is: sometimes we fall behind the news, which always runs a little faster than us. We therefore had to wait to discover the subtle Siby l, in 2019, carried by an incandescent cast - Virginie Efira, Adèle Exarchopoulos, the much-missed Gaspard Ulliel, Sandra Hüller (a revelation, at least in France, as her career in Germany is already established), Laure Calamy and Niels Schneider - to see the birth of a director with a powerful gaze. After studying Fine Arts at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure in Paris, Justine Triet made documentaries before turning to fiction. Going up the thread, The Battle of Solferino (released in 2013) and Victoria (in 2016), already announced that we had before our eyes an important filmmaker. How do we recognize it? To its ability to explore grey areas , to take stock of the vagueness of our lives, with subtlety, dry but with sensuality, through this approach to the characters, as modest as it is implacable, to a precise direction of actors-actresses, empathetic, without coquetry. Finally, how can you not love a filmmaker who closes one of her films, Victoria , with the magnificent song Without Her sung by Harry Nilsson? We can't wait to discover Anatomy of a Fall, which announces a new path, darker, but no less engaging.
