Decor works as a means of conveying to yourself and your guests the feeling you want to feel at home. No wonder, many people end up choosing their favorite colors to decorate the house, or even choose colors according to psychology to look for the best way to decorate their home environments. But it's not just the color issue that counts when decorating: the issue of space and furniture arrangement is also extremely important.

After all, it's no use having a beautifully decorated environment, but not being able to move around and carry out everyday tasks with ease, right? This is where the relationship between what is beautiful and what is functional comes in, and the islands, in decoration, are totally capable of uniting the two worlds.

Islands in decoration: how to centralize and make spaces more functional

In American films, it is not uncommon to see those large kitchens, with the furniture arranged in a way that favors the comfort of mobility. This adds more sophistication to the environment, as even the smallest rooms can become more elegant and, at the same time, functional when they gain an island in their decor. It is not only in the kitchen that islands can be applied, despite being the main room in which this furniture is used.

The island is nothing more than a bench that is positioned in the center of the environment (mainly in the kitchen), which allows other parts of the rooms to be used for other activities. Having all the furniture on one side of the room can reduce the mobility of the environment, especially when there are many people. In addition, the island decoration favors the feeling of open and spacious space, allowing you to see other rooms.

islands in the kitchen

After all, the kitchen is not always one of the largest spaces in the house, and it is entirely possible to decorate it in the form of islands – and here, the use of cooktop-style stoves to be placed on countertops to save space and also to give more amplitude to the environment. It's also worth using a built-in oven, shelves and dispensers to hang cups and spices.

The main thing, however, is to use a beautiful countertop in the center of the kitchen to have everything you need unified there. In the case of more compact kitchens, it is worth betting on ceramic pieces, as they give a special touch to the environment, functioning almost as decorations. It is also worth decorating the environment with fruits to give more color to the room.

Another relevant point is that the island helps to integrate other environments into the kitchen, such as balconies and terraces, in addition to the dining and living rooms. This is especially true for houses that have the kitchen and living rooms integrated, with few wall partitions to separate the environments. The island helps to let you prepare a meal while chatting with family or friends in the living room, for example – in practice, it isolates the kitchen less from the rest of the house.

How to compose your kitchen with the island

A very positive point of the islands is that they match basically any decoration finish. Whether it's islands with support benches to place kitchen utensils, or islands with sink and stove in the shape of a cooktop, the finish can be your choice. Preferably, choose a material that is more durable and easier to clean, such as marble. It is also worth using wood, ceramics and other stones for the furniture.

It is also necessary to pay attention to the decorative conjunction of the island with the rest of the environment, especially in relation to the floor and the wall. If you prefer environments with more natural tones, the ideal is to use vinyl flooring to compose the woody and/or more rustic environment. If you prefer something cleaner , it is worth using ceramic floors in lighter tones, such as off-white , light gray or even light blue - in this case, prefer islands with tones that highlight the environment.

The lighter shades of gray and wood, it is important to note, give an air of modernity to the environment. And if you choose islands with more rounded ends, it guarantees the modern style in the environment!

Island in the bedroom: possible trends for the future

Some guidelines in the world of decoration have brought up the possibility of implementing islands in other rooms, and the bedroom is one of them. In this case, the island would not be a room like in the kitchen (in which it is the main piece for this type of room), but rather implement the bed as the island of the room – it is the “island bed”, as it is called among others. the interior designers.

Here, the concept of “island” expands a little further, as any piece of furniture that is placed centrally in the environment becomes an island. In the case of the bedroom, the bed gains a very high headboard behind it, gaining a dressing table or a simple desk for home office. This helps to better enjoy the environment of the room, not having the furniture scattered around the room and still makes it much more functional.
