A’mare d’Edra collection, an ode to the sea

To mark its debut in the world of outdoor furniture, Edra, the Italian publisher known worldwide for its design furniture and innovative projects, presents A'mare, a collection designed by the artist Jacopo Foggini with a crystal effect that evokes the shimmering of water.

Proud defender of “made in Tuscany” since its creation in 1987 by Valerio and Monica Mazzei, Edra is recognized for its ideal alchemy between technology and design, giving it a powerful personality. Under the artistic direction of Massimo Morozzi, names such as Zaha Hadid, the Campana brothers, Francesco Binfaré and Masanori Umeda have collaborated with Edra, to name but a few. From these daring collaborations were born iconic pieces such as the On the Rocks, Grande Soffice and Standard sofas, now present in the collections of the greatest museums in the world.

This year, for its first collection of outdoor furniture called A'mare (the contraction of “love” and “sea” in Italian), Edra surprises us again with a series of furniture – chair, armchair, bench, sun lounger and tables – in polycarbonate slats, designed by the Italian designer Jacopo Foggini…. A unique material, with green-blue reflections evoking the nuances of water, able to disappear once immersed and to resume its tangible forms and its infinite tonal vibrations when exposed to the sun... Manufactured and assembled by hand Using special screws, these slightly elastic slats with a deliberately irregular section are positioned in such a way as to create an elementary and resistant framework, especially on the seats, for optimal comfort outdoors.

Simple and natural in look but stable and functional in use, A'mare is more than a collection of outdoor furniture and approaches artistic creation, a field that Jacopo Foggini knows only too well. For years, the designer has been shaping pieces by working with a thermoplastic polymer, fascinated by the aesthetic and chromatic qualities of this glass-like material. Continuing a collaboration with Edra that dates back to 2009, the Turin-based artist adds a new chapter to his personal expressive studies with A'mare, once again merging poetry and creativity through technical perfection.
