The Don't Worry Darling actress arrived at her first Met Gala in a custom Valentino gown and a shocking new hairstyle.

This was a night of many firsts for Don’t Worry Darling actress Florence Pugh. Not only was this her first Met Gala, but tonight, she cemented her status as the new face of Valentino with her first red carpet look under the brand.

Before this evening, we were treated to our first glimpse of the actress’s Valentino collaboration in a campaign shot by Stephen Meisel. Its composition was minimalist and elegant, allowing Pugh’s vibrant personality to shine through. With this being our only hint as to what we might see on the famous Met Gala steps, we were expecting something energetically elegant—perhaps a flouncy drop waist inspired by Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2016 Haute Couture collection.

The predicament posed by tonight’s Karl Lagerfeld theme is that the designer worked with few houses, making it difficult for brands that aren’t Fendi, Chloé, or Chanel to honour Karl while remaining true to their own brand’s aesthetic.

Tonight, Valentino rose to the challenge. Pugh made her Met Gala debut in a white strapless gown with a central black bow embellishment—reminiscent of Lagerfeld’s iconic hairstyle. The actress complimented her ample Tiffany & Co. diamond jewellery with a glamorous feathered headpiece set atop a newly shaved head.
