The timeless elegance of Michael Kors at NYFW
For his spring-summer 2025 collection, the designer took inspiration from a Netflix series.
Backstage, a lucky few were given the chance to see Michael Kors ' mood board for his Spring/Summer 2025 collection . Pinned on it were shots from the popular Netflix miniseries Ripley , featuring a photo of Dickie (Johnny Flynn) and Marge ( Dakota Fanning ), as well as black-and-white shots of Italian cliffs and the sea. The show's noirish cinematography—unlike other adaptations of Tom Ripley's story, which typically adopt a sunny aesthetic—influenced the designer's collection, revealing a rawer sensibility.
There were some inspired and inspiring pieces, including a 1950s swimsuit paired with a high-slit skirt and a leather basket bag, a raffia-style ribbed knit tunic sweater, a lace dress, officewear sets that reveal a little skin — never too much — all in neutral colors of black and white, navy, and shades of khaki. A certain artisanal aspect is at the heart of this collection, in contrast with very contemporary structures of the garment, and it is successful.
