The Dior Men winter collection 23/24: poetry in its purest form
On Friday, the fashion house Dior presented the men's winter collection 23/24 at the Fashion Week in Paris. Framed by the soft voices of Robert Pattinson and Gwendoline Christie, creative director Kim Jones also paid tribute to Yves Saint Laurent.
The models walked along huge screens in a magical atmosphere. They featured actors Robert Pattinson and Gwendoline Christie reciting the poem "The Wasteland" by TS Eliot. The designs of the luxury brand Dior were as beautiful and expressive as the poem, created in the shadow of the First World War.
Inspired by TS Eliot's epic verse, the collection expresses the changing times. The present cannot exist without the past. The designs reflect the changes in the house of Dior . In addition to many beige, grey, brown and darker tones, yellow and blue colors also have a special place. Based on the theme of "water" from poetry, fisherman's jackets, fisherman's hats, boots and life jackets were presented on the catwalk.
An ode to Yves Saint Laurent
Kim Jones combines renewals through old events with themes from "The Wasteland" - like the successor to Yves Saint Laurent after the death of Christian Dior. The fashion company experienced a rejuvenation by changing the top. The Thames is a metaphor for this. An ancient river transformed by regenerating, rejuvenating waters. The ripples of the water reflect the dynamism that Yves Saint Laurent brought with taking over as the youngest couturier in history at the age of 21.
Yves Saint Laurent's first women's collection "Trapeze" was a huge success in 1958 and changed the world of fashion. Kim Jones therefore opted for a gender-neutral presentation in which the feminine and masculine worlds merge. Men's skirts, handbags and knitted sweaters were part of the show.
The designs are full of lightness and informality, the focus is on the individual. Admirably new are the 3D printed shoes and boots . True to Yves Saint Laurent's striving for modern simplification, the handbags were kept minimalist. But not everything in the collection is new. Among other things, pieces such as the sailor top have been taken from the Yves Saint Laurent archive and reworked.
The absolute showstoppers of the collection are the tops with cut-outs , combined with shirts and skirts. Classic shirts appear more voluminous with double sleeves. Our favorite look is a white shirt under a cream cable knit sweater. The absence of side seams gives the look its impressive effect. The model from Dior wears a mottled grey-brown skirt, black boots, high socks and a simple beige bag.
The breathtaking set on Paris' Place de la Concorde and the functional, elegant creations also attracted some stars to the show. Dior's new ambassador is K-pop star Jimin , who caused a lot of screeching from the fans at the entrance. Even before his new role as the luxury brand's ambassador , Jimin was known to be an admirer of Dior. He arrived in a tan suit with a turtleneck and matching boots.
Other celebrities in attendance included Naomi Campbell , Cruz and David Beckham, Eddie Redmayne, Karlie Kloss, Delphine Arnault and Courtney Love. Delphine Arnault is now following in her father's footsteps and will become the new CEO of Dior from February 1, 2023.
