My Island: Dr Louise Lagendijk, integrative medicine practitioner and founder of The Core.
Each week, one of Ibiza’s most fascinating residents shares their tips on where to eat, drink, play and discover the unseen side of the island.
‘I’ll never forget the first time I came to visit Ibiza when I was six years old. My mother loved the island and used to come here with friends and her and my father dad decided to bring us along. I remember the long days on white beaches, which haven’t changed much, and endless playing with my siblings. It wasn’t until I turned 17 that I decided to bring a friend and discover the clubbing scene - I will never forget coming home after a night of partying to have breakfast and then continuing at Space, dancing until late in the afternoon.
I now live part-time in Ibiza: my integrative medicine practice and supplement spray company THE CORE are based in Amsterdam, so I go back and forth. I feel as if Ibiza gives me the space to recharge, to reconnect and to nurture the deepest parts of me. The energy of a city is very different, and more fast-paced – Amsterdam is where I go to get stuff done!’
Terra Masia
Once I arrive, I always try to get a vegetable box from Terra Masia, so the following days I can get creative in the kitchen with local and seasonal produce. Cooking is one of my favourite ways to unwind.
La Paloma
Whenever I don’t feel like cooking but still want to eat farm-to-table type of foods, I’ll go to La Paloma. One of the few restaurants open in winter, the tables in the orange grove make me feel as if I’m having dinner at a friend’s place.
Camí de Balàfia
My dear friend David Leppan - my favourite island host - brought me here years ago and I have been coming back to this local treasure ever since. The tomato salad is unreal!
Los Enamorados
For sundowners it’s always Los Enamorados for me, a boutique hotel and gorgeous restaurant setting located in the little romantic harbour of Portinatx directly on the seaside.
Chez Bibi
A coffee place I love to meet friends is Chez Bibi in Santa Gertrudis. They have an incredible bakery where I pick up a loaf of sourdough when I have the chance.
Cala Xarraca
I love this charming northern bay – the transparent waters and empty sands make you feel as if you've stumbled upon your private beach. I often go for a quick dip or just to hang out on a towel in the sand with friends, talking for hours.
Annie’s Ibiza
Shopping in Ibiza has always been remarkable, but I especially love Annie’s, a mix of eclectic, vintage and rare one-of-a-kind pieces. Hidden in D’alt Vila, it’s always worth the peak (and purchase) when I’m there.
The Agora
This sharply edited store up in the Six Senses hotel is the work of the very stylish Daniela Agnelli. She is a true gem and the collection, which has been curated by Daniela and her business partner, the sustanaibility consultant and fashion journalist Tiffanie Darke, is deeply focused on the impact of fashion on the planet.
Tanis
In terms of interior design I love going to Tanis, right off the road to Santa Gertrudis, known for it’s earthy minimalism. I love the textural linens, the soft lighting and the easygoing, natural pallete.
Self-Care
For general wellbeing I’m never without my The Core refillable supplement sprays, which I launched this year. These smart, unisex sprays provide the essential vitamins (B12, D and more) for a modern day lifestyle with just three sprays under the tongue daily. They tick all the boxes for me, especially when I'm travelling. If I need to ‘do some inner work then Ibiza has it all. I tend to gravitate towards the feminine energy on the island so enjoy doing breathwork with Sapphire Leena or Anika Adrian. Or I find myself hanging out for soulful conversations with my incredible friend Stephanie Canavesio or attending one of her meditation sessions. I love going to women’s circles, to sing with the amazing Laor or write poetry with the Alexcia Panay. Every now and then I’ll head to a temazcal ceremony, a traditional Mexican sweat lodge to dive deep into the feminine and come out close to feeling reborn.
