French fries cause depression and anxiety
In a recent study, researchers and scientists found that food consumption can be directly linked to the negative impact on mental health.
French fries have a significant amount of fats, carbohydrates and are well known for not being a good food for health if consumed in excess. What's more, a new Chinese study has suggested that fried foods, especially potatoes, may be directly linked to a negative impact on mental health.
Scientists and researchers from Hangzhou, China, found that regular consumption of fried foods is associated with a 12% higher risk of anxiety and a 7% higher risk of depression than in people who do not eat fried foods.
A total of 140,728 people were evaluated, who registered a total of 8,294 cases of anxiety and 12,735 cases of depression in those who consumed fried foods.
The article published in the journal PNAS suggests that the results "break a trail in the importance of reducing the consumption of fried foods for mental health".
Despite the finding, several nutrition experts around the world say that the results and tests are still preliminary and it is important to understand two points. Whether it was the fried foods that were causing mental health problems or whether people with anxiety and depression were eating more of these foods.
