Prada Symbole, three artists imagine a new version of the bag

For the Prada Symbole celebration campagin, three artist took on the same themes as inspirtarion: the iconic bag and the chameleon-like actress Hunter Schafer. As a result, they presented a series of divergent and distinct portraits, each one paying homage to the codes, faces and nuances of the brand.

The campaign was created by three of the masters of modern art: Catherine Opie, Thomas Ruff and Carrie Mae Weems. His work rarely (if ever) has been printed in the form of a fashion campaign, making a major turning point for the Italian fashion house.

Respecting the process and meanings inherent in both art and fashion, each question and challenges the other to create works that explore the blurred boundaries between these disciplines through mutual exchange.

Each artist refers to the same figure, to the same object, but their practices, methodology and the results they obtain on their part are tremendously individual. Like the Symbole itself, different sides (different facets) are discovered in a waltz full of harmony and daring. Each series of images connects with an artistic expressio: Opie's work revolves around the body and identity, new codes of beauty. His images seem to sculpt Schafer into a series of triangles, merning woman and object; Ruff reinterprets prefabricated concepts, distorting and manipulting reality. The objective value of a photograph questions our ideas or image; Weems connects her imagery with visual statements of identity, representation, projection, notions of transformation, and bravery.

Before each os his lenses, Schafer transforms, an act that, through the art of its creators, reflects his own acting craft. Campaign images become character studies: of Hunter Schafer and the Symbole. A narrative that leaves no one indifferent in its wake, making the luxurious jacquard piece an essential accessory for any occasion.
