"Thinking Design, Making Design" Experience and Heritage Meet at Issey Miyake
From 7 to 21 June Issey Miyake presents the new exhibition and the collaboration between A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE and the artist Tatsuo Miyajima.
"THINKING DESIGN, MAKING DESIGN: Work by A-PIC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE and Tatsuo Miyajima" a dialogue of collaborations with creative professionals, who carry on the concepts of design and implementation at the base of Issey Miyake's work. Coming from 7 to the 21st of June, the Japanese brand will combine working practice, design and production methods, together with the work of contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima to present an installation in the Milan store via Bagutta 12 on the occasion of Milano Design Week.
Starting from A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE (lable founded by Issey Miyake in 1998 which has as its primary objective to establish a future of dialogue on clothing between creators and consumers), the project explores the various ways of combining and translating art and design clothing through collaborative projects.
World renowed contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima collaborates with Issey Miyake to propose clothes that reflect the distinctive creative practice of his works of art. Through the use of the numbers from 0 to 9, based on three concepts: "it keeps changing", "it is connected to everything" and "it is infinite."
There are many designers who think "what materials to use" while designing, or "how" to draw. On the other hand, it is rare to find a designer who thinks about “why” and it goes without saying that Issey Miyake's designers do. The blousons in this project use my iconic digital numbers as a motif. The digital numbers represent "time" and "life", concepts that have actually been sewn into these blousons. " Tatsuo Miyajima
The exhibition includes an installation composed of the fabric that characterizes the TYPE-II-002 series and a video interview with Tatsuo Miyajima in which he explains the thought and the realization behind this collaboration between the performative work of the artist and the brand he explores new possibilities for clothing. Then there is TYPE-II-001, a blouson that uses the Steam Stretch technique *, just an application of hot steam that reacts with a special thread that manages to fold only some parts of the fabric creating patterns and shapes to give life to unique items. Finally TYPE-II-002 another unisex blouson made of Triporous TM , * a material obtained from the husk of rice characterized by the random motif of Miyajima's digital numbers. Issey Miyake with "Thinking Design, Making Design" is an ambitious project to bring people closer to new approaches and to experience fashion and design, rewarding the experience and expertise of the brand.
