Jonathan Anderson's Loewe Spring Summer 2025 men's show "A Radical act of Restraint"

The title of the collection " A Radical act of Restraint " refers to a sort of containment vow which in the case of Jonathan Anderson can be understood both in conceptual but also aesthetic terms with notable stylistic reductions. In fact, from Loewe 's spring summer 2025 men's fashion show you can perceive a sense of minimalism rediscovered by extreme cleanliness. On his Instagram account he mentions the artists present with their works in the setting of the fashion show, inspired for this season by Susan Sontag's exhibition "Erotics of Art". We find the photography of the American photographer Peter Hujar, the designer and painter exponent of Art Nouveau Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Italian designer Carlo Scarpa and the American painter Paul Thek. An exhibition that includes everyday objects that are elevated to the extraordinary: a chair, a coat rack and an easel that possess the complexity of a building, the photograph of a single shoe becomes monumental and a series of artifacts set in bronze.
The show opens with a series of models wearing slim-fit tailored suits and long feathers positioned on a headband that veil the face. The silhouettes appear slim, or relaxed with wide sleeves and loose trousers. Tops with draped collars that emerge from tailored blazers, mother-of-pearl or metallic waistcoats, leather jackets without lapels and trousers draped at the waist with the rectangular leather label positioned on the front are on display. Degradé leather returns, this time with lamb coats that fade into ostrich leather. White poplin shirts that tighten at the waist with very long belts, tight-fitting knitted summer polo shirts and biker jackets that become cropped capes.
Simple but not banal, concise but with interesting twists that catch your attention. Jonathan Anderson teaches us that sometimes reducing, but still managing to amaze, is a complex action. And although the great lovers of maximalism will hate her, there is no question that her work is a perfect example of how one should pursue one's research: remaining faithful to oneself and to the Maison.
