The Editors’ Picks – Sonia Cardinal
The L'OFFICIEL IBIZA digital team tell us what they really, really hope to find under the tree this Christmas.
L'OFFICIEL IBIZA's Head of Partnerships, Sonia Cardinal is hoping for scents, sustainable jewellery and hand sewn slippers.
Smell is one of my predominant senses and I always appreciate the discovery of a new scent. I have something for figs (I eat them, I wear them... it's a little funny) and at Papaduk perfumery I recently discovered Italian perfume Fico Nero from Simone Andreoli. Inspired by the Mediterranean and with touches of figs leaves, it's quite the perfect Christmas wear.
Artist Inés Ventó creates handmade candles inspired by Ibiza scents & fragrances that carries the legacy of a family of perfumers and the knowledge and delicacy associated with it. She recently gave birth to the book Hombres de barro which explores the life of Toni Frigoles, a master potter born in Ibiza in 1934 who crafted essential traditional items for rural communities. The narrative spans a century, featuring memories from his whole family tree. I enjoy learning about ways of living and it helps me connect in a concrete way to the heritage of Ibiza.
Ibiza born Ana Cerrato crafts traditional Italian style Friulanes (elegant velvet slippers from Venice) and created a collaboration with fashion writer Leandra Cohen through her brand, Cayumas. Hand sewn by artisans following tradition, they are comfortable and assembled without glue on the soles or cardboard in the heels and are a true timeless trend. I have feelings for this raw silk romantic pink pair that can be worn inside or outside the house, making them the perfect accessory of a relaxed outfit and allowing me to live my best ballerina era.
Just in time for Christmas, Miu Miu has unveiled a collaboration with Polaroid, presenting an accessory that conveniently fits into my luggage. I can now capture and share spontaneous festive memories without the wait for analog film development. This "two objects in one" seamlessly combines vintage charm with contemporary flair, allowing me to also make use of the fabric strap on a purse if my heart says so.
I adore stand out jewellery and Valencia jewellery brand Simuero qualifies for the deal. I first discovered them at their Ibiza summer pop-up. All of their pieces are sustainably made in their workshop by the hand of their owners Rocio, her partner Jorge and their team. They value the process of creating each piece one by one through craftsmanship and recycled material, allowing conception without any waste. Known for the use of jungle colourful natural stones in their design, they found the magic formula to wear a birthstone in a contemporary way. On my list to wear for Christmas and beyond!
