A guide to quitting your bad habits
We talk about how you can quit habits that you do without realizing and harm your body.
The fact is that we all have bad habits that we want to quit. You may be in front of a screen for too long or you may not be able to stop your poor diet. Even though most of us know what we need to do to abandon these habits, we still have difficulty.
If you think like us, we recommend you to take a look at the guide we have prepared on how you can quit your harmful habits...
List the problems your habit creates
Our harmful habits can create problems for ourselves as well as the people around us. If you can see how the consequences of your actions affect you, your life, and the people you care about, you will stop denying them.
List the benefits that will occur if you quit your bad habit
It shouldn't be difficult to predict the positive situations that will occur when you quit the habit that creates problems for both you and your loved ones. Seeing these benefits in a list will give you strength and be a source of motivation.
Try to understand what your habit serves and why you do it
Understanding why you have this habit is a great first step to trying to stop it. Discovering and resolving the underlying problem helps eliminate the need for the habit.
Find something else to replace it
You can pick up a hobby from scratch, such as joining the gym or starting to learn a new language, to replace the habit you want to quit, or you can go for a 10-minute walk or make yourself a cup of tea to get away from your immediate desire.
Set goals and rewards for yourself
First, after aiming to stay away from your bad habit for a day and doing something nice for yourself in return, set the next goal as three days and then a week and gradually increase the time. Along with the feeling of pride you experience every time you reach your goal, you will realise that you can live without this habit!
Get help
There's nothing wrong with asking for help from a close friend or a therapist, we don't always have to do everything ourselves. It takes much more strength to admit that we need help than to pretend there is nothing wrong.
Whatever bad habit you're trying to change, it's important to be patient with yourself. You shouldn't feel disappointed because you couldn't quit overnight a habit that has been with you for many years. If you stay consistent and remind yourself why you want to change, you will find success!
