From now on, call Robert Pattinson an art curator!
His seven selected works will participate in the Contemporary Curated auction organized by Sotheby's New York at the end of September 2022.
From painting to sculpture, Robert Pattinson seems to have an eye on every corner of the art world, from celebrities like Willem de Kooning and Richard Serra, to potential artists like Genieve Figgis and Lynette Yiadom- Bookie.
"To be able to see and discuss art on a personal basis - and to have the opportunity to place 20th-century 'giants' alongside contemporary artists - I feel very fulfilled" - Robert Pattinson
Acting made him realize that all art forms are interconnected. "As an actor, I've always felt an affinity for the arts, and have been able to connect them to a certain extent — whether it's a sculpture or a song or a role. , all in harmony at once."
Selected works under curator Robert Pattinson include Willen de Kooning's 1964 Untitled painting, Richard Serra's 2011 Rotation #9 and an Untitled 2005 drawing by Julie Mehrutu.
Besides, there is also the painting Kissing by the Window (Genieve Figgis, 2005). According to Robert's description, "every Figgis painting is seductive, sensual but at the same time a poison." He also praised Thomas Houseago's work because the Portrait successfully portrays "a looming presence behind the viewer's back."
"What I'm looking for is the language of a work," says Robert Pattinson of his curation process. "The work does not simply exist, but its presence seems to be humming with life. It can reach you in the most primitive language."
However, these works are not expected to reach record prices. Willem de Kooning's work, for example, has been valued at around $2.5 million — $65 million less than its usual price tag.
If you're planning to go to the auction, Robert advises "only buy the pieces you really love. It's best to have the mindset that you'll own the work for the rest of your life." He is the latest celebrity to join Sotheby's auction as curator after Ohprah Winfrey, Jay Chou, Steve Aoki, Ellie Goulding, Margherita Missoni and Kim Jones.
