Cannes Film Festival 2024: the 3 dresses that marked the opening ceremony
Maria Grazia Chiuri imagined three pieces of exceptional craftsmanship for Meryl Streep, Juliette Binoche and the mistress of ceremonies, Camille Cottin .
They are all signed Dior but are not alike. Immaculate white for Meryl Streep , incandescent red for Juliette Binoche and deep green for Camille Cottin : the three creations seen during the opening ceremony of the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival did not fail to stand out. L'OFFICIEL reveals some of the manufacturing secrets hidden behind these three exceptional pieces.
Juliette Binoche
From the series dedicated to Christian Dior ( The New Look , in which she plays Coco Chanel) to a contemporary outfit signed Dior by Maria Grazia Chiuru, there was only one step for Juliette Binoche . Her personalized Haute Couture dress in red silk and with a wide neckline — revealing the shoulders — is inspired by the FRAC dress from winter 1949. To make it, this piece required 30 meters of fabric and 550 hours of work in the workshop.
Meryl Streep
To receive her honorary award, Meryl Streep wore a custom Dior Haute Couture dress in white silk, draped on the side, having required 650 hours of work in the workshop.
Camille Cottin
The mistress of ceremonies Camille Cottin appeared very elegant in this Dior dress from the Fall 2024 collection, in deep green velvet, with a braided belt and a bare back.
